This Week In 1970


June 21st – Pete Townshend of The Who caused a bit of a stir at Memphis International Airport when he was overheard to say that “Tommy,” their new hit record, was “going down a bomb” … which, when overheard by fellow passengers, caused airport security, the police and the FBI to react to what they all thought meant a bomb threat of some sort.

Also on this date, Brazil defeats Italy 4-1 to win the World Cup in Mexico 

June 26th – Actor Sean Hayes is born



June 27th – A band previously known as Smile performs for the first time under their new name, Queen  (Word is these guys are going to be pretty successful!)
