October 5th, 1970

The Jackson Five take over the top spot on this week's countdown with "I'll Be There."  This is their third straight #1 Record on the WCFL Big Ten Countdown.

R. Dean Taylor and Free move up right behind it into the #2 and #3 positions with "Indiana Wants Me" and "All Right Now."  BOTH of these songs have the potential to hit #1.

Outside The Top Ten, The Poppy Family move up a dozens spots with "That's Where I Went Wrong" ... and Grand Funk Railroad  make a 14 point leap with their latest, "Closer To Home," which climbs from #34 to #20.

Talking about potential future #1 Hits, James Taylor and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles both premier this week with the '70's classics "Fire And Rain" and "The Tears Of A Clown."  We'll be seeing these two up near the top of the chart in no time!

I also like this week's #40 song, "It's A Shame" by The Spinners.  They'd have their biggest hits after switching labels to Atlantic Records ... but this song has always had a real good feel to it.
