1972 Coast-To-Coast Surveys - December 4th - PENNSYLVANIA

"Me And Mrs. Jones" leaps into the #1 spot this week (from #5) ... and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" is again in The Top Five (this week down from #2), but with the explanation "Based on Requests and LP Sales."  (The LP from which it came is currently shown as Philly's #9 LP.

In fact, it's a pretty soul-oriented chart all the way around ...

The Top Three LP's belong to Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations and War ... and last year's Top Three Singles on this date were "Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone, "Theme from 'Shaft,'" by Isaac Hayes and "Have You Seen Her by The Chi-Lites ...

While THIS week's Top 30 includes the latest hits from Billy Paul (#1), Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes (#6), Johnny Nash (#8), The Temptations (#9), The Stylistics (#14), Al Green (#16), The Fifth Dimension (#18) and Curtis Mayfield (#23) ... which represents a good 25% of the chart.  The Hitbound Pick is "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, which will be a HUGE #1 Hit once we flip the calendar page over to 1973.  (Guess that shows the "Philly Soul" tag to be a well-deserved one!)
