A Few Of Your Mid-Week Comments

Sounds like a lot of people enjoyed Micky’s appearance on The Tonight Show …

And it even got coverage in Billboard Magazine!

If you missed it (as I did Monday Night … and we are STILL having internet connection problems here on Wednesday!) … you can see it below:

Here’s the Billboard article … very nice!!!

And of course everybody is buzzing about Micky’s new book, too, coming out in November.  (Man, I haven’t even finished The Monkees book yet … it’s absolutely MASSIVE!!!)

But this one should be an interesting and enlightening read … and should go a lot faster if it’s filled with photographs and memorabilia … can’t wait to see it!  (kk)

Announcing Micky Dolenz's New Book: 'I'm Told I Had A Good Time: The Micky Dolenz Archives, Volume One'

Beatland does a great job with Monkees things.  Did you see him last night on Fallon?  Of course, Fallon fell all over Micky, then proceeded to talk about himself for half the talk and then joined in on the second of two verses of Last Train To Clarksville.

Fallon does have great old acts on, but spends too much time glorifying them and not TALKING with them.

GREAT book title:  “I’m Told I Had A Good Time!”

Clark also told us about this …

Just saw this 44 minute clip of The Dick Cavett Show that ran the day after Woodstock with many of those stars on the show!  Crazy cool.  Maybe you have seen already, tho?  Some incredibly cool performances and chat.

No, I have NOT seen this before … how cool is THAT?!?!

Funnily enough, I’ve been watching more of the old Dick Cavett shows lately … he always had some interesting guests and even all these years later, these interviews can be quite entertaining.

Cavett always came across as a little more intelligent than his peers back in the day … and the guests who appeared on his show genuinely seemed to like and respect him … making him one of the “cool kids” in the process.

Thanks for sharing.  (kk)

Mike Wolstein sent us this clip of Bob Sirott’s news report about a Chicago bands reunion back in the ‘80’s …

Eventually he did a full-length special called “How Chicago Rocked The ‘60’s, which we’ve run links for many times …

So it’s kinda cool to see this short clip again!  (kk)

Billboard ran an interesting article earlier this week, spotlighting foreign language songs that made The Top Ten here in The States.

Interestingly enough, they show a total of THIRTY tunes to achieve this honor … but EIGHTEEN of those came since 2012, so there certainly has been a change in the trend!

Covering OUR era (which in this case means 1958 … when their Hot 100 Pop Single Chart officially started … and running through 1989, which we’ve since declared The End of the Top 40 Era), we found ten records that made this rather exclusive list.  Amazingly, FOUR of these records went all the way to #1!

In chronological order, those would be:

1958 – Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu) by Domenico Modugno – which made it all the way to #1 (and stayed there for five weeks)

1960 – Sailor (Your Home Is In The Sea) – Lolita – which peaked at #5

1962 – Al-Di-La by Emilio Pericoli - #6

1963 – Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto - #1 for three weeks

1963 – Dominique by The Singing Nun - #1 for four weeks

1966 – Guantanamera – The Sandpipers - #9

1974 – Eres Tu – Mocedades - #9

1984 – 99 Luftballoons – Nena - #2

1986 - Rock Me Amadeus – Falco - #1 for three weeks

1987 – La Bamba – Los Lobos - #1 for three weeks
