Tuesday This And That

I liked the list of TV themes.  By the way, Cheers did not debut until 1982.  It would be among the best of the 80`s (not the 70's).

I appreciated Kiss for their theatrics and a few songs have stood the test of time.  I saw them several times with and without Peter and Ace.  I am not sure Peter is in shape to still play, but probably could come out and sit on a stool to sing Beth and wave goodbye.

Phil

If “Cheers” comes off the list, then everything shown below it moves up a notch and “Welcome Back Kotter” move into the #10 slot.  (kk)

>>>And how's this for a nice closer ... from Frank B … "HOLIDAYS WITH LOVE --- MERCEDES BENZ"  (kk)

I'm not clear here . . .

Did Frank give you a nice Closer . . .

Or a nice Mercedes . . . ?!

CB

Now wouldn't THAT be something?!?!  (kk)

Regarding The Five Satins tune in the Mercedes Benz ad …

Canadian Tire is using a Platters song "For The First Time" in one of their holiday commercials this year.

David Cousins

They’re digging back deep for these tunes!  (kk)

Kent,

Thanks for posting the youtube video of The 5 Satins doing I'LL BE SEEING YOU. I had seen that commercial on television but to be honest with you, didn't know offhand who it was immediately. The only singer I could think of was Tommy Sands' version in 1960 on Capitol. and I knew that wasn't it.

Also, have you seen the Bud Light commercial with SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE being sung in the background? I don't believe that SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE was being sung by Etta James.

Also, this weekend I saw for the first time a Chanel commercial with NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN being played in the background.

Larry

Lately I’ve seen as many as three commercials in a row that feature music from our era … and the fact that a few more of the obscure tunes keep popping up is a good sign!  (kk)

The reason Karen Carpenter succumbed to anorexia

A new book and documentary will draw more attention to Karen’s battel with anorexia … a disease most of the world wasn’t familiar with when she passed away.  Hopefully, this will draw more attention to the warning signs so that others don’t have to experience the same fate.  (kk)

Speaking of The Stones, it sounds like a tour announcement is imminent …

The “It’s Only Rock And Roll” website teased these tour dates as a possible itinerary …

>>>12 Down By The River Neil Young with Crazy Horse

It would be nice if Neil released the promo 45 edit of "Down By The River." Currently, that edit is available only on the original 45, and even then, only in mono. That prompted me to create my own "stereo 45 edit."

The Doobie Brothers have recorded a new song to help raise money for the victims of the terrible Maui wildfires.

The song features the Doobie Brothers (Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, Michael

McDonald and John McFee) alongside Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro and Henry Kapono, each of whom have close ties to Maui and Hawaii themselves.

From Rock Cellar Magazine:

Proceeds from the writing of the song will go to the fundraising efforts on behalf of the People’s Fund of Maui and The Doobie Brothers will also be donating $100,000 to the organization which provides direct financial assistance to over 8,000 Maui community members displaced from the devastating fires in Lahaina and Kula.

“As our people of Maui piece their lives and homes back together, we’re grateful to have the genuine support and beautiful music of The Doobie Brothers,” said Dwayne Johnson, co-founder of People’s Fund of Maui. “A longtime resident of the island, Pat understands the Maui community and the tragic devastation its residents are bravely overcoming. ‘Lahaina’ is a song that both captures our aloha spirit and will help to make a real difference in the recovery.”

“It was such an honor to be included in this special song by the Doobie Brothers for the people of Maui. Music unites people and strengthens communities. I hope this song will bring comfort and healing to all those affected by the Maui wildfires,” Jake Shimabukuro stated.

For Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers, this all takes on an even more personal tone, as he’s called Maui his home for decades.

“I’ve been a resident of Maui for 28 years now and I wanted to make a tribute to the place I’ve called home for so long and help bring awareness and donations for the recovery and relief efforts there,” said Pat Simmons. “This song is a look back at what Lahaina has meant to all of us. So many people have walked the streets of Lahaina and have felt that aloha spirit and we hope that one day we will walk those streets again.”

Pat co-wrote “Lahaina” with the help of fellow Doobie Brother Michael McDonald who has had a residence in Lahaina for over 15 years, and John Shanks, a longtime friend and collaborator of the band who produced the song, as well as The Doobie Brothers last album, Liberté. Other close friends on the track, who also have deep-rooted connections to the island, include rock and roll icon and fellow Maui resident Mick Fleetwood on drums, whose restaurant was destroyed in the fires; ukulele virtuoso and multi-award winning Hawaii’ native Jake Shimabukuro; and Grammy-nominated musician and Hawaii’ native Henry Kapono.

>>>Hey, Guys, imagine living the Swinging, Romantic Lifestyle of a Handsome Fairytale Prince!  For instance, Prince Charming was dating the Stunning Snow White, the Beautiful Sleeping Beauty and the Totally Disarming Cinderella at the same time.

What a Life!  Until he got caught!  Whoo-o-ops!   Maybe not so much!  (CB … which stands for "Chronicler Boy!")

OK CB, aka Classical Bloopers guy: Most certainly Snow White and Cinderella matched up with Prince Charmings, BUT The Sleeping Beauty was updated to not only being given a name (Princess Aurora) but her match was Prince Phillip. I know this well as Phillip was one of my first loves, although the Charmings certainly were.

Hi Kent,

First of all, a VERY Happy Thanksgiving to you and Frannie!

Enjoyed reading about Larry Lujack and all the other information you give all us readers thru the years!!!

For some reason, I have not been receiving  your "Forgotten Hits" emails for quite a while … thought "maybe" you were cutting back a bit, but how can a true rock and roller ever give up the music!!  LOL

Have you heard Cher's new Christmas CD yet?

Keep up the great work and Keep rockin'

Carolyn

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

I haven’t heard Cher’s new Christmas CD yet … but I am anxious to hear it.  (Hard to believe that she was just a background singer on the original Phil Spector Christmas Album way back when!!!)

We very rarely send out emails these days … unless it’s a special event of some sort, we pretty much just trust the readers to go to the site on their own now … because I am still posting almost daily there (which means that you’ve got a WHOLE lot of catching up to do!!!)

We’ve got a brand new feature starting tomorrow, in fact, which we hope will bring readers back daily to take a look back 60 YEARS AGO TODAY.  (Bookmark this page and make it part of your daily routine!)  kk

Thank you for letting me know ...

Like you said, I have a lot of catching up to do!  It seems as we get older, the time

goes by so much faster!!!

But the music keeps us YOUNG!!!!

Carolyn

I asked a friend of mine who retired a few years ago, “What the heck do you do all day now?” to which he replied, “I don’t know … but it takes me all day to do it!”  (LOL)

Wish I could take the time to do so … but I think I’ll be working for awhile yet!  (kk)

Martha Stewart says you can take your turkey and stuff it.

Stewart has revealed she called off hosting a Thanksgiving celebration at her house this year.

“Nine guests canceled because somebody got sick. So, I called up my chef friend and I said, ‘We’re not doing Thanksgiving.’” Plus, she’s sick of cooking.

“I’ve cooked 14 turkeys already for my TV show, and I still have to cook one more turkey on the ‘Today’ show,” she said. “So forget it.”

When asked if she was “all turkeyed out,” she agreed saying, “I am turkeyed out.”

“I made a plan,” Stewart added. “Friends, of course, invited me to their home, so I’m going to about five different homes to taste different courses."

Sidebar:  Martha is 82 years old.  How many Thanksgiving Turkey Dinners must she have made to date!

So, if you or your Significant Other, doesn't want to make Thanxgiving Dinner, you don't have to either!

Meanwhile, at our house these days, one of Linda's Favorite Thanxgiving Dinners to make is . . . "Reservations!"

As for me, just pass me a Celebratory Beer!

Meanwhile (as expected) Mariah Carey’s seasonal hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” crashes back into Billboard’s Hot 100 this week at #17.  It has now TOPPED this chart FOUR TIMES over the four years, spending a total of twelve weeks at #1, making it officially the Biggest Holiday Hit of All-Time on The Hot 100 Chart … and will likely do it again this season.  (Of course, as we all know by now, NOTHING that happened before August 4th of 1958 matters anymore … so Bing Crosby’s eleven weeks on top in 1942 isn’t even a blip on the radar anymore … despite selling well over 50 million copies to date.)  Still, it’s a pretty incredible statistic for BOTH of these pretty incredible artists.  (kk)

And finally, this photo from Mike Wolstein ...

For what it's worth, I suppose if you're going to find yourself stuck in the crossroads, this might not be such a bad place to be. (kk)
