Well, it took a little longer than I thought it would, but Peter and Gordon finally reach the #1 spot in their 8th week on the chart.
The song was written by Paul McCartney when he was living at the Asher residence, dating Peter's sister, Actress and Model Jane Asher. For whatever reason, John Lennon didn't think the song was up to par with what The Beatles were shooting for at the time ... so he let Paul give it away. It would go on top the charts all over the world!
In fact, Peter and Gordon's follow-up single already premiers on The Super Chart this week at #87. ("Nobody I Know," another Lennon and McCartney composition.)
"Chapel of Love" falls to #2 after three weeks at #1 ... and The Beach Boys hold on to the #3 spot with "I Get Around."

"Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying" by Gerry and the Pacemakers, sitting at #8; "Love Me Do" by The Beatles (the guys who started it all) at #9; "Can't You See That She's Mine" by The Dave Clark, making a big leap from #40 to #18; "Diane" by The Bachelors (#20); "Don't Throw Your Love Away" by The Searchers (#22); "Do You Love Me" by The Dave Clark Five (#30 ... and one of THREE songs the DC5 have on the chart this week); "Yesterday's Gone" by Chad and Jeremy (#32); "P.S. I Love You" by The Beatles (#36); "Wishin' And Hopin'" by Dusty Springfield, who also make a giant leap this week, shooting from #83 to #57, a move of 26 spots; "You're My World" by Cilla Black (#80) and "Bits And Pieces," the third Dave Clark Five hit represented this week, at #94.
The Rolling Stones finally see some major movement with their first US Chart Hit ... "Not Fade Away" climbs from #71 to #53, a move of nearly twenty places ...
While Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas' B-SIDE, "Bad To Me" passes the record's A-Side this week as "Bad To Me" climbs to #13 (up from #24) while "Little Children" falls to #15.
