Today is “Officially National Lost and Found Day,” a day set aside to make an extra effort to find those things that we’ve lost.
I had this Really Great Story for you today, but . . . I lost it! When I went to look for it, I couldn’t find it!
Wait! If that weren’t enough, we’re all losing something else that we’ll never find!
As I was writing this, I was informed of some very unsatisfying news. In a message posted by Johnny Williams, he said his radio website that most all of us have turned to now and again so many times over nearly thirty years is “signing off” forever at the end of the year! Say “Goodbye, and a Big Thank You to his "440:Satisfaction!"
I guess all this makes sense because today is Friday the Thirteenth!
And, as you probably know, “Paraskevidekatriaphobia” is the word for the Fear of Friday the 13th ... while “Triskaidekaphobia” is the Fear of the number 13.
It was sometime in the early 1990s, Psychotherapist Donald Dossey of the Stress Management Center-Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina coined the term "Paraskevidekatriaphobia" to describe the Friday the 13th Fear. Dossey would tell his patients that if they learned to pronounce the word, they would be cured! ( Dossy must have been a very Funny Guy in Therapy Sessions! )
Well, these words are all “Greek” to me! But if you do want to know HOW to pronounce them for any reason, your wordsmith here has the answers!
"Para SKEV-ee DECK-ah TRI-ah PHOBIA."
“TRIS-kye-DEK-a-FOH-bee-a!”
These Friday the Thirteenth words are probably of more interest to those among us whom, when we were kids, would walk around proudly pronouncing, ad nauseam, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
Meanwhile, the name “Friday” is believed to have a unique association with the divine feminine. It’s derived from Old English and means “Day of Frigg,” who was a powerful Sky Goddess in Norse Mythology. Frigg, also known as “Frigga,” was associated with love, marriage and motherhood. ( Well, I din’t Friggan’ know that! )
A few of the most well-known Superstitions, of course, include ~~~
“Walking under a Ladder!”
“A Black Cat crossing your Path!”
“Breaking a Mirror!”
“Stepping on a Crack!”
“Spilling Salt!”
Monkees keyboardist and bass guitarist, Peter Tork, was born on Friday the Thirteenth in 1942. He did OK for himself so he was probably OK with all these 13th connotations of Days, Dates, and Numbers!
Fast forward to today, Taylor Swift definitely has no fear of the Number 13 and says her lucky number is 13. While not a Friday, she was born on December 13, 1989 and her 13th Birthday was on a Friday the 13th. So today is her birthday. She’s also done OK for herself!
Now, much more relatable than any of the Chiefs TV Football Games Coverage, here’s an excuse for me to include a gratuitous shot of her in the Forgotten Hits VIP Lounge!
Hopefully all in all, you’ll have a very Lucky Day Today. Knock on Wood!
So, in acknowledgement of today’s strange Friday Facts and Spells, here’s my Forgotten Hits “Friday the Thirteen Superstitious Chuck Buell Minute Medley!”
CB ( Which Stands for “Chucky-Lucky Boy!” )
Don't Friday the 13th and Chuckie kind of go together anyway???
(No wait ... that's JASON!!! I get my horror gods mixed up sometimes ... probably because I've never seen a single one of these movies that became such HUGE box office franchises!!!)
But I DO happen to have a favorite "13" song of my own ...
Although it never officially broke into ANY of the National Top 40 Charts, this WAS a big 1971 hit here in Chicago for Seatrain ...
Where "13 Questions" rose to #14 (damn! missed it by THAT much!) on the old WCFL Chart. (Looks like WLS ignored it completely.)
Still a good song ... and one that enough of you remembered and liked enough to vote it in as your #1824 "Most Essential Classic Rock Songs Of All Time" favorites.
(Go ahead ... I dare ANY of you dee jays out there to play it ...
and just because you probably won't, here it is to enjoy HERE in Forgotten Hits today ...
Friday the 13th ... of December ... 2024. (kk)
Now THAT'S a Forgotten Hit!!! (kk)
>>>Taylor Swift has done OK for herself (CB)
Yeah, I guess you could say that ...
Her "Eras" Tour, which kicked off in Glendale,
Arizona, in March of 2023 and concluded this past Sunday in Vancouver,
British Columbia, consisted of 149 shows on five continents, attended by
10,168,008 people, with $2,077,618,725 in total tickets sold, making
it the bestselling tour of all time. (Yes ... that's Two BILLION Dollars, folks!) Gross ticket sales were double
those of any other concert tour in history.
During the two years of her Eras Tour, Swift gave
out $197 million in bonuses to tour workers —truck drivers, caterers,
instrument techs, merch team, lighting, sound, production staff and
assistants, carpenters, dancers, band, security, choreographers,
pyrotechnics, riggers, hair, make-up, wardrobe, physical therapists and
video team. That is one sweet, appreciative girl who knows that it takes a village to pull off something as awesome as this.
