It's Donny Osmond topping the chart for a second week with "Go Away Little Girl" while Joan Baez, Rod Stewart and Bill Withers all inch their way closer to the top. The biggest Top Ten mover belongs to The Carpenters as "Superstar" climbs from #11 to #7. Meanwhile, Donny and his brothers leap up another fifteen places as "Yo Yo" climbs from #36 to #21.
Playing Favorites:
A few records premiering on the chart this week will have a lasting impact on radio for many decades to come. Although not necessarily MY favorites, "Only You Know And I Know" by Delaney and Bonnie debuts at #69 and "Peace Train" bows at #71 for Cat Stevens. (Not quite the sound we had come to expect from The Cat Man!)
New songs on the char this week that I genuinely DID love (and STILL love some 50 years later) include "Charity Ball" by the all-girl group Fanny (always one of our favorite Forgotten Hits), "It's A Cryin' Shame" by Gayle McCormick, former lead singer of the group Smith who scored a bit hit with their remake of "Baby It's You" a few years ago and "I'd Love To Change The World" by Ten Years After, a Classic Rock staple that deserved a better fate on the pop charts.
