June 8th, 1970

And there you have it!  White Plains takes over the top spot with "My Baby Loves Lovin'" in its sixth week on the chart.

Three new notable entries reach The Top Ten this week ...

"Love Land" lands at #5 (up from #14) for The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, "Ball Of Confusion" by The Temptations climbs elevens spots from #19 to #8 and "Question" by The Moody Blues takes over the #10 spot, up from #17.

It looks like Three Dog Night have another hit on their hands ... "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)" climbs from #20 to #14.  And don't rule out "A Song Of Joy" by Miguel Rios ... his classical piece jumps from #34 to #23 in its second week on the chart.  (Proof again that "anything goes" was the motto of Top 40 Radio in the '60's and '70's!)

John Phillips' solo hit "Mississippi" is up eleven places (from #39 to #28) and The Fifth Dimension are back this week with another Laura Nyro song as "Save The Country" debuts at #34.

In our "Forgotten Hits" category, how about "The Witch" by The Rattles ... this one only peaked at #79 on the Billboard Chart but is already at #36 here in Chicago.

And how about Tommy Roe's Pick Hit of the Week, "Pearl"?  That one topped out at #50 in Billboard ... but was a #30 hit in both Cash Box and Record World, which just goes to show you that even the major publications dedicated to presenting these stats couldn't always agree on everything!
