We've been celebrating 60 YEARS AGO TODAY all year long here in Forgotten Hits ...

But long-time FH Reader Mike Wolstein has just offered up ANOTHER anniversary worth celebrating ...

From 90 YEARS AGO TODAY!!!

90 Years of Rock and Roll!!!

(But you probably knew this!)

In November, 1934, The Boswell Sisters had a hit with this tune.

Elvis, eat yer heart out.

Knew it?!?!?

Are you kidding me?!?!

I used to play the HECK out of this record when I got it for my sixth birthday that year!!!

And let me tell you, this was some head-bangin' music back then!!!

We have often explored the history of "The First Rock And Roll Record" over the years in Forgotten Hits ... and this one has been mentioned before.

Released in 1934, it's a good candidate if only for its title (Alan Freed be damned!)

And these girls were HOT!!! (in an early, pre-Spice Girls kind of way)

In addition to their recording career, The Boswell Sisters were also movie stars!

They appeared in several films during the 1930's.

Their recording of "Rock And Roll" (not to be confused with the Led Zeppelin title of the same name) became a Top Ten Hit in 1934, peaking at #7.  The girls scored THIRTEEN Top Ten Hits during the 30's on Billboard's Pop Chart ... and actually had a #1 Record the following year with "The Object Of My Affection."

Wikipedia has a VERY nice piece on the girls here ...

Thanks, Mike!  (kk)
