HAWAII FIVE-O
#1 again, just as it was in 2013 when we last ran this poll.
The record by The Ventures became a #4 Hit on the pop charts in 1969 … and you still hear it quite a bit today.
Hawaii Five-O (the original series, that is) premiered in September of 1968 and starred Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett. (We knew him from Stoney Burke, where he was a bronco breaker!)
The series ran for twelve seasons … and spawned the popular phrase “Book ‘em, Danno.”
Producers hoped the glamourous shots of the Hawaiian islands would act as an appeal to draw viewers in.
Fortunately, they also provided interesting enough story lines to keep folks tuned in for twelve seasons.
A reboot launched in 2010 (starring Alex O’Loughlin in the lead role) lasted another ten years, making it one of the most successful remakes in television history.
