August 27th, 1964

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

8/27/64 – The brand new Walt Disney musical film "Mary Poppins," directed by Robert Stevenson and starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, with songs by Richard and Robert Sherman, premieres at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

It offers a blend of live action and animation and will go on to win five Academy Awards … which everyone connected with the film thought was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Also on 8/27 – Your humble servant (and Forgotten Hits Founder) Kent Kotal turns 11 years old.

Incredibly, SIXTY YEARS FROM NOW he will publish a calendar of events reminding readers of the events of TODAY!

Also on 8/27, comedienne Gracie Allen dies.  She starred with her husband George Burns for eight seasons on The Burns and Allen Show, after a successful radio and vaudeville career.

Say Good Night, Gracie.
