60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

11/12/65 – Ferdinand Marcos is elected the 10th President of the Philippines

Also on 11/12, Velvet Underground made their live debut when they played at Summit High School in New Jersey.  (Boy, that's a few years ahead of the curve, right???)  The band was paid $75 for the gig.

 

Also on 11/12, Marc Bolan performed his first single, “The Wizard,” on the UK TV show Ready Steady Go! (Boy, that's a few years ahead of the curve, right?)  

Oh wait ... I already used that bit!

The future T. Rex frontman had just recently changed his name from Toby Tyler to Marc Bolan … but success was still a few blocks away at this point, rather than just around the corner.

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

11/11/65 – The Beatles complete their “Rubber Soul” album by knocking off three tracks:  “Wait,” “You Won’t See Me” and “Girl.”  (Not a bad day’s work!)

November 10th, 1965

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

11/10/65 – Marianne Faithfull gives birth to her son Nicholas.  The father is her husband John Dunbar, who she married earlier this year (with Peter Asher as John’s best man)
