The Sunday Comments ( 04 - 26 - 26)

>>>It’s another Forgotten Hits viewing record!  (kk)

People sure are getting smarter and we are having more fun all the time!

Also, a minor correction maybe, but Alan was the eldest performing Osmond. There are two brothers older than he who had hearing disabilities. Ironic, no?

Shelley

THANK YOU for that great clip DC5 - my favorite DC5 song; never heard a live version.
Great numbers for FH!
I noticed on my Google analytics a ton of "visits" from China and Singapore - guessing, for me, those are AI bots ... at least I'll be shaping the way the AI world thinks about the content they steal from me.
Hope you are doing well,
Phil
I don't know if you remember or not but several years ago (8? 9?) Forgotten Hits came in as the #1 Oldies Website in Russia!  (NO idea why!!!)  But I remember we joked around about it for a while.
I have also found my posts translated into several different languages over the years and posted in foreign countries ... no idea who was doing that eithe r(!?)  But at leas they credited them and linked them back to me!  It's a strange, strange world we're livin' in, Master Jack.  (kk)

kk …

Congrats On Your 547,000 Visits To "FORGOTTEN HITS"

You Can Include Me In That Total.

Kind Of Like A "GOLD RECORD!"

They Should Give You A Trophy.

FB

We’re actually closing in on 7.5 million views right now … at this pace, that might even happen by the end of the month!

I don’t know what changed … but 547,000 visits in 20 days is really quite amazing!

(Now if each of them would only send me one dollar …

Uh-oh … gotta be careful … don’t want to wind up in Soupy Sales territory!)  kk

Rock stars react and pay tribute to Dave Mason after the announcement of his death …

First, a beautiful tribute to Dave’s last day with us …

On Sunday, April 19, after cooking an amazing dinner with his beloved wife Winifred, he sat down to take a nap with sweet Star (the maltese) at his feet. He passed away peacefully, in his favorite chair, surrounded by the beautiful Carson Valley that he loved so much. A storybook ending. On his own terms. Which is how he lived his life right up until the end.

We were deeply saddened to hear of Dave Mason’s passing.

Dave was part of Traffic during its earliest chapter, and played an important role in shaping the band’s sound and identity during that time. His songwriting, musicianship and distinctive spirit helped create music that has lasted far beyond its era, and continues to mean so much to listeners around the world.

Those years remain a special part of the band’s story, and Dave’s contribution to them is not forgotten. His place in that history will always be remembered, and through the music, his presence endures.

At this sad time, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and all those who loved him and his music.

--Steve Winwood

From Mick Fleetwood …

Known to my sweet David (Toad) … me as the “Badger“ … from our childhood stories we shared together our whole lives … into this sunset πŸŒ…πŸ›Έ This is might I say with all the visions of “Life Forever,” a real expression of David’s overview on life !!! He as few “have” a reverence for truthful life … And MOST importantly through my long lasting love of this iconic talent ... and for me his loving friendship. Listen to his songs and you WILL LEARN!! …That sweet David Mason … yes left this world … BUT NOT WITHOUT A REMINDER of heartfelt songs that question “The meaning of life” … With the understanding of such insight into life’s puzzle!!! I say a loss today stays imaged in song. And a resolute dedication to his creative craft MUSIC !!πŸπŸ›ΈπŸŽΌπŸ›ΈπŸŽΈπŸ✍️✍️✍️✍️

I love the friend I have lost and send my love to Winifred.

Experience Hendrix and the family of Jimi Hendrix are saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Mason. As a singer, songwriter, and guitarist Dave Mason was a founding member of the hit group Traffic alongside Steve Winwood, Chris Wood and Jim Capaldi. As a member of Traffic, Dave Mason was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2004.

Dave Mason and Jimi Hendrix forged a lasting friendship that included several studio guest appearances on recordings including 12-string acoustic guitar on "All Along The Watchtower," backing vocals on "Crosstown Traffic," and sitar on "Little One." Mason and Chris Wood also appeared on stage during a performance of "Room Full Of Mirrors" at the historic Royal Albert Hall concert in February, 1969.

More recently, Mason participated in the production of the documentary film At Last The Beginning ... The Making Of Electric Ladyland where he recounted his involvement on the recording of the classic album.

"I was truly honored to have met Dave and to have spent time in his presence," recalls Janie Hendrix. "He was not only an extraordinary musician, but a deeply kind and genuine soul. Being around him, you felt his warmth immediately. His spirit and his music will continue to inspire for generations to come. I truly am saddened by his passing."

Fly on sweet angel. Forever in our hearts. πŸ’œ

Some more criticism of the new Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael” …

Janet Jackson is not mentioned at all in the film, even though she was competing with her brother on the charts by the late ‘80’s.  Sister LaToya explains that Janet “kindly declined” to be mentioned in the film.  This fact and HUGE oversight has been circulating since before the film even opened.

But brother Randy and sister Rebbie are ALSO missing from the Jackson Family lineup.

Billboard points out several other errors and inaccuracies throughout the film:

We saw the film on opening day (Friday, April 24th) in a virtually empty iMax Theater …

The music and visuals are amazing.  The Jackson Five / Jacksons / and later Michael Jackson solo had an amazing recording career … and this is represented throughout, start to finish.  The fact that this was essentially a Jackson Family sanctioned film, the whole clan must have gotten together and decided to portray father Joe Jackson in the worst possible light … and absolute monster who regularly beat Michael, trying to get him into performing shape … and then trying to capitalize on him every step of the way once he got there.

Whether it was his own selfish greed or a true commitment to keeping the family values alive, he probably did more to sabotage Michael’s early solo career than help it, but always insisting that his brothers remain part of his act, even though by that Michael had clearly outgrown the rest of the family’s musical capabilities.  (Honestly, I was not expecting his father’s story to continue to the extent that it does in this film once Michael “broke free” for a solo career … but as previously stated, I guess it was necessary to see the conflict of Joe trying to derail Michael’s meteoric rise unless he took his brothers right along with him.)  Even when Michael’s hair catches fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial, Joseph is more concerned about how soon Michael can return to the stage than he is about his own son’s safety and the fact that he could have died from this incident.

The films DOES end with a “His Story Continues” tag (God, the credit alone must run for five or six minutes!) so perhaps there WILL be a “Part Two” film … although I can’t imagine for a second that the family will want to end Michael’s story on a negative note.  (Part One does not mention ANY of the allegations that were ultimately brought against him … or even hint at any of these circumstances.)

Still, if you enjoy this music, you WILL enjoy this film.  (I don’t know that the iMax experience adds all that much to the movie-going experience … I think this movie will play just fine in a regular theater as well.)

The way Michael took charge of his career and pursued his personal goals was like something the world had never seen before.  Yes, we’d been thru Elvis and The Beatles … but Michael literally reinvented himself for his solo career.

I have to recommend this film for the quality of Michael’s career that it presents …

But as several other reviewers have already pointed out, the film is “based on a true story” … but not the FULL story.  (kk)

UPDATE:  "Michael did $39.5 million on its opening day and is expected to gross over $100 million for its first weekend, shattering "Bohemian Rhapsody"'s previous record of $51 million dollar opening weekend, the largest for a musical biopic.

Tommy James Was Telling Cousin Brucie That "ME, THE MOB & THE MUSIC: WITH TOMMY JAMES & THE SHONDELLS" Is Now Going To Be A TV Series On One Of Those Stations Like NETFLIX Instead Of Being Made As A Movie.  After That He Will Be Working On A Musical.

His Sirius Radio Show Is In Its Ninth Year.

On May 28th He Will Be At The PNC Center In New Jersey With Peter Noone & Cousin Brucie.

FRANK B.

Tommy already has a couple more return trips to Chicago for concerts between now and the end of the year ... I think the first one is in June at The Genesee Theatre ... and then he comes back in October to play at The Arcada.  Our old FH Buddy Dave The Rave is a regular on Tommy's radio show these days.  (kk)

And now, from the sometimes very twisted mind of our Forgotten Hits Music Maestro, Chuck Buell, this Brief Musical Interlude because Today is a Special Day!
