KEWB broadcast out of Oakland, California, and boasted a pretty impressive list of jocks over the years ... including Casey Kasem, The Real Don Steele, Gary Owens, Robert W. Morgan, Bob Elliott, Don Bowman, Chris Borden, Ron Reynolds and more. (Looking at this weeks list of DJ Picks of the Week, it looks like Ron Reynolds may be the only one left from the glory days. I believe KEWB stopped broadcasting the Top 40 format the following year.)
Still some great tracks on the chart this week ... James Brown has got the #1 Song this week with "I Got You" followed by The Righteous Brothers with their reading of "Ebb Tide". "The Sounds of Silence" is performing here as well, at #3, ahead of The Byrds' "Turn Turn Turn", "Flowers On The Wall" by The Statler Brother with their biggest cross-over hit and "Just Like Me" by Paul Revere and the Raiders. I've always loved "Sandy" by Ronny and the Daytonas, too ... we've featured that one many times before in Forgotten Hits.
They also feature The British Top Ten this week (that chart is topped by The Rolling Stones) and have neat commercial ads for both the brand new Four Seasons' LP as well as a chance to win tickets to an up-coming Beach Boys concert at The Circle Star Theatre!
This is vintage 1965 Radio at its very best.
