After taking the British charts by storm just a few months ago … it was a HUGE deal when his recording of "Release Me" kept The Beatles' "Penny Lane" out of the #1 spot … a British radio station mistakenly announces that Engelbert Humperdinck has died in a car crash. (Ironically, a few years later the whole world will be buzzing about the car crash that Paul McCartney reportedly died in the year before, thanks to the whole "Paul Is Dead" death hoax first broadcast here in America by a disc jockey in Detroit. "He blew his mind out in a car" … and dozens and dozens of other clues supposedly left behind by The Beatles as cryptic hidden "Easter Eggs" were "discovered" as fans began to dissect every Beatles album cover and lyric, even playing tracks backwards in search of more secret messages.)
Back in the studio today after several days of filming their new television special "Magical Mystery Tour", The Beatles record a brand new version of "Your Mother Should Know", originally worked on for consideration for the "Our World" television special back in June.
Jimi Hendrix's first LP "Are You Experienced?" enters The Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart for the very first time. It will remain on the chart for 106 weeks, eventually peaking at #5 and selling upwards of ten million copies worldwide. Of those 106 weeks on the chart, 77 will be spent in The Top 40.
The television series "Mannix" starring Mike Connors premiers on CBS. (This was one of my Dad's favorite shows … honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a single episode.)
