"War" hangs on to the #1 spot for another week ... but Diana Ross is right at its heels as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" climbs another ten spots this week to land at #2.
No major movement within The Top 20 this week other than Gene Chandler jumping 15 spots with "Groovy Situation" (from #35 to #20). This is Chandler's first (and only) WCFL hit record as the station hadn't switched over to Top 40 Music yet when Gene topped the charts in 1962 with his mega-hit "Duke Of Earl." "Groovy Situation" will out-perform its national showing when it hits its WCFL peak in a few weeks.
"Cracklin' Rosie" moves up 14 places this week (from #37 to #23), putting it just four spots behind "Solitary Man," which currently sits at #19.
We've got an unusual premier at #27 this week as "Neanderthal Man" debuts for Hot Legs. (The band will eventually evolve into 10cc.)
And a personal favorite that we played the heck out of around our house is this week's #35 record ... "Go Back" by Crabby Appleton.
