THE 1971 SUPER CHARTS: Week Ending November 20th

"Shaft" holds on to The #1 Spot for a second week ... as John Lennon's "Imagine" inches closer to the top (moving from #6 to #4 to #3 to #2 in its fifth week on the chart.)

But within this week's Top Ten there are other viable candidates to take over the #1 spot ...

"Have You Seen Her" by The Chi-Lites moves from #9 to #4, "Baby I'm-A Want You" by Bread climbs from #10 to #6 and Michael Jackson's "Got To Be There" leaps eight spots from #17 to #9.

But the one to watch has got to be "Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone ... which moves up NINETEEN places from #26 to #7.

David Cassidy's remake of The Association's hit "Cherish" makes an impressive eighteen point move of its own, climbing from #38 to #20 this week.  "Superstar" by The Temptations betters that with a twenty point move from #50 to #30 ... but NOBODY can touch Three Dog Night this week as their latest, "An Old Fashioned Love Song" sky-rockets from #67 to #33 ... that's a 34 point move!

Playing Favorites:
The top debut this week belongs to Rod Stewart and the Faces and their version of "(I Know) I'm Losing You."  I like this one all-right, but my favorite version will always be the Rare Earth remake from last year.  (Oddly enough, I never cared for The Temptations' original version of this tune.)

One song that I liked that never really went anywhere was "Hallelujah" by Sweathog, new at #78.

Tommy James is new on the chart with "Nothing To Hide," another record that will do much better here in Chicago than it will nationally.

And Donny Osmond is back with his ear-piercing version of "Hey Girl" ...definitely not the best version of THIS one!!!
