This week we move from Delaware to South Carolina, where we see The Carpenters holding on to the #1 spot from the week before with "Hurting Each Other." Nilsson's hit "Without You is still climbing (from #3 to #2 this week), as are The Osmonds, who jump six spots from #11 to #5 (after topping our Delaware chart last week.)
While several of the titles may seem the same from week to week, certain tracks are doing decidedly better here in South Carolina than we've seen in the past.
For example, "Bang A Gong" by T. Rex, "My World" by The Bee Gees and "Footstompin' Music" by Grand Funk Railroad are all Top Ten Hits on WKYB ... and records by The Supremes and The Fifth Dimension ("Floy Joy" and "Together We'll Find Love" respectively) are also making Top Ten showings. I don't think we've seen either of these titles on our charts before.
And look at some of the other tracks that were not especially big national hits holding down a spot in this week's Top 40: "Brian's Song" by Michel Legrand, "Lonesome Mary" by Chilliwack, Livingston Taylor's "Get Out Of Bed," "Shake Off The Demon" by Brewer and Shipley (which peaked at #98 in Billboard) and "We've Got To Get It On Again" by The Addrisi Brothers.
It IS refreshing to see Van Morrison at #20 with "Tupelo Honey" ... and Joe Cocker seems to be doin' alright with his hit, "Feelin' Alright," which is this week's #11 hit.
