Back to the Midwest for this charter from WKNR / Detroit, which has a noticeably soulful Top 15, including tracks by The Dramatics ("In The Rain," #3), The Stylistics ("Betcha By Golly Wow," premiering at #4!), Joe Tex ("I Gotcha," #5 ... you won't believe how many charts I found with this record at #1), The Fifth Dimension ("Together Let's Find Love," #6, another Top Ten showing for this one, which only peaked at #37 in Billboard) and "Now Run And Tell That" by Denise LaSalle, a #9 hit on the Keener Chart, but a record that topped out at #46 in Billboard.
The usual suspects are all still here: "Without You," "Heart Of Gold," "Band A Gong," "Down By The Lazy River," "American Pie" and "Hurting Each Other" all occupy spots in The Top 15 ... but it's some of the Hit Previews that caught my eye when first saw this chart ...
"Son Of My Father" (always a favorite of mine, charting by both Giorgio and Chicory), "Roundabout" by Yes, "Rock And Roll Lullaby" by B.J. Thomas, "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John and "You Could Have Been A Lady" by April Wine. (And how about Emerson, Lake and Palmer's version of "Nut Rocker"?!?!? That one stopped at #70 in Billboard.)
More soul, too, by local talent Dennis Coffey and Aretha Franklin ... and let's not forget Isaac Hayes making his way with "Do Your Thing."
