We're covering them all ... moving from state to state ... in this year-long journey of re-examining the pop music charts of 1972.
Today's stop ... California ... and the KHJ Chart dated March 21st, 1972!
Neil Young holds at #1 and our latest fave, "Suavecito," moves into the #2 spot ...
But the biggest news in The Top Ten this week is Donny Osmond's 12-point leap from #17 to #5 with his latest, a remake of Paul Anka's former #1 Hit, "Puppy Love."
"I Gotcha" by Joe Tex is up six places (from #14 to #8), after having already topped the chart in a couple of other cities we have previously visited. And holding the #10 position is a song called "Louisianna" by Mike Kennedy, a song that will only climb to #62 in Billboard. (This one didn't chart here in Chicago at all.)
Other big movers this week include "Don't Say You Don't Remember" by Beverly Bremers (#13 to #9), "A Cowboy's Work Is Never Done," the new one by Sonny and Cher (#21 to #13), "In The Rain" by The Dramatics (#22 to #14) and "Taurus" by Dennis Coffey, which jumps 12 places from #28 to #16.
New on the chart this week is "Back Off Boogaloo" by Ringo Starr, which premiers at #30.
