We're heading west this week, partner, for the KRAE survey out of Cheyenne, Wyoming ... which features The Top "Great 48" Hits (as well as one Pick Hit to Click)
No major surprises on the chart this week ... but there have been some pretty radical moves up and down the chart.
For example, last week's #1 Record ("Oh Girl" by The Chi-Lites) falls all the way to #13! (Ouch!)
And while the brand new #1 Hit ("I'll Take You There" by The Staple Singers) only slid up a notch from the week before, this week's #2 record ("The Candy Man" by Sammy Davis, Jr.) jumps all the way up to this position from #21!
Other massive moves this week include "Outa-Space" by Billy Preston (up nine notches from #24 to #15), "Rocket Man" by Elton John (do I see a theme developing here?), up ten spots from #35 to #25, "I Need You" by America, their follow-up hit to their breakthrough smash "A Horse With No Name," which moves up eleven pegs from #34 to #23, while "Living In A House Divided" by Cher climbs a dozen spots from #42 to #30.
On the other end of the spectrum, "Smilin'" by Sly and the Family Stone, "You Could Have Been A Lady" by April Wine, "Rockin' Robin" by Michael Jackson, "Back Off Boogaloo" by Ringo Starr, "Day Dreamin'" by Aretha Franklin, "Slippin' Into Darkness" by War and "Look What You've Done To Me" by Al Green all fall ten spots or more.
A couple of titles that definitely qualify as Forgotten Hits are the David Crosby and Graham Nash pairing on "Immigration Man," a song you don't hear every week (!) but one that certainly deserves at least an occasional spin ... (it really is a great tune!) ... and how about The Pipes And Drums And The Military Band Of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' version of "Amazing Grace," this week's #23 song ... when's the last time you heard THIS fluke hit from 1972??? (Incredibly, this record hit The Top Ten nationally ... certainly one of the oddest One Hit Wonders on record.)
And we're giving a nod to "I've Been Lonely For Too Long" by Frederick Knight, too ... it's this week's top Hit Bound debut, which bows at #30. While this record may be new in Wyoming, this was already a Top Ten Record on last week's Texas chart.
