I’m about halfway thru reading your book … man, you’ve lived a life! So much more here than I expected. A very interesting read for anybody who grew up during the same era we did, loving the songs of the ‘50’s, ‘60’s and ‘70’s. (kk)

Austin Butler channeled and embodied my

accurately and respectfully.

You can feel and witness Baz’s pure love, care, and respect for my father throughout this beautiful film, and it is finally something that myself and my children and their children can be proud of forever.
What moved me to tears as well was watching Riley and Harper, and Finley afterwards, all three visibly overwhelmed in the best way possible way, and so filled with pride about their grandfather and his legacy in a way that I have not previously experienced. It breaks my heart that my son isn’t here to see it. He would have absolutely loved it as well.
I can’t tell you enough how much I love this film and I hope you love it, too.
Everyone involved poured their hearts and souls into it, which is evidenced in their performances.
Baz, your utter genius combined with your love and respect for my father and this project is just so beautiful and so inspiring. I know I’m being repetitive, but I don’t care, Thank you for setting the record straight in such a deeply profound and artistic way.

The word … apparently official now that Disney+ has given it its blessing … is that we have a release date for The Beatles’ “Get Back” documentary.
All the sites have this news back up again …
And on July 12th copies will start shipping to everyone who have had orders placed and been waiting since February for this nearly eight hour extravaganza to be released.
If you haven’t ordered yet, it might be a good idea to do so now …

The Rolling Stones iconic tongue logo will be made into a new LEGO set to commemorate their sixtieth anniversary. The set, which will be coming out on June 1st, measures over 22" long by 18.5" wide and can be hung on a wall.

From The Time Square Chronicles …
5-15-22 - DOLENZ REIGNS SUPREME IN RED BANK —
I attended Micky Dolenz’s show Thursday night at Red Bank’s Count Basie Center and was terrifically impressed at the presentation. We’ve caught Dolenz many times over the years, including several re-unions with the other Monkees-members, but as a solo act., Dolenz is just totally impressive.
With a crackerjack band, led by guitarist Wayne Avers, his 70-minute set was totally propulsive and enjoyable. Kudos also to drummer Rich Dart and bassist John Billings for their stellar work.
Dolenz has added The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club” to his repertoire and it just cooks with an addictive power. Truth be told, Dolenz is a rocker first and foremost and with this number, you can tell exactly where his heart is at. “Gimme Some Lovin’” is also an impressive number.
His album last year Dolenz Sings Nesmith was a worldwide hit and appeared on several significant year-end lists. He said at the time that there could well be a follow-up album with songs by Neil Diamond, but I’d love to hear him perform a batch of rock-classics, starting with “Pepper.”
Several years back, an article in the Huffington Post compared his voice to a healthy mix of Freddie Mercury and Roy Orbison. Totally on the mark.
I attended one of the last shows Dolenz did with Michael Nesmith, at NYC’s Town Hall last year and even though there was a great video presentation, I did not get the full impact until tonight’s show. With much of it culled from Dolenz’s own personal collection, the behind-the-scenes moments, as well as material from other concerts, it just splendid.
Much has been made of Paul McCartney on his current tour singing “I’ve Got A Feeling” with a video of John Lennon, but Dolenz has been been doing this for quite sometime; singing with Davy Jones in particular, and the reaction from the sold-out crowd was terrifically impressive. From 8 to 80, his fan base is totally impressive.
His last number, “Daydream Believer” had Dolenz turning to the video screen as the song ended and saluting his Monkee-brothers. Class personified.
Dolenz will be appearing at NYC’s Palladium on June 3. Don’t miss it.
Speaking of Micky Dolenz, here’s one I’m quite excited about …
I really loved the Dolenz, Jones, Boyce and Hart album when
it was released in the mid-‘70’s … and am a firm believer (yes, that's right ... when it comes to The Monkees, I’m A Believer)
that these guys were cheated out of a hit when “I Remember The Feeling” … a great Boyce
and Hart tune that featured all four of their voices ... failed to chart.
I was one of those 23,000 fans that this article talks about that was their for DJB&H’s debut performance at Six Flags Great America in St. Louis … and probably saw them at least three other times afterwards (including a big Toy Drive here in Chicago several months later.)
7A Records seems to be devoted to bringing us anything and everything pertaining to The Monkees, group, solo or otherwise … so yes, I will buy this again (in the hopes of pristine sound.) kk
If you watched the Hulu mini-series “Candy” (depicting the true story of Candy Montgomery, who killed the wife of a man she was having an affair with, striking her 41 times with an axe, only to receive a “Not Guilty” verdict), you heard David Soul’s 1977 #1 Hit “Don’t Give Up On Us” played on a couple of occasions (perhaps in reference to her own less-than-satisfying marriage.)
That’s not one you hear very often … although I remember it being quite a surprise at the time to see and hear Detective Ken Hutchinson singing a love ballad in the midst of playing a tough-guy cop on the hit television series “Starsky And Hutch.”
A deserving #1? I’m not so sure … but it DID top all three national charts so what do I know!!! (kk)
We went to see “SHOUT! A Mod Musical” again last weekend. This time the show is playing at The Metropolis Theater in Arlington Heights, IL … a BEAUTIFUL place to see a show.
Thank God, they’ve restored all the dialog and narration for this production … it just wasn’t the same without it.
A great presentation (running thru June 11th) – with a stand-out performance by Anna Seibert as “Blue Girl” … she blew the doors off during Sunday afternoon’s matinee. (Her performance of Cilla Black’s “You’re My World” actually brought tears to my eyes … it was a show-stopping rendition.)
I mentioned to Tony Hatch (who has NINE of his songs in the musical, some of which are reprised several times) that the show was still playing and that we had seen it again. (I think this was our fourth time.) I also told him I hoped he was making some money off the show! (lol)
Imagine sitting there in the audience listening to the ensemble perform ‘60’s classics like “Downtown,” “I Know A Place,” “Don’t Sleep In The Subway,” “I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love” and others … and then coming home and TALKING to the guy who wrote all of those great hits!!! (kk)

Everything still going well for me this side of the pond. SHOUT continues to engage new audiences and be an enjoyable show for many, but we could benefit from a major tour. Personally, I’m very proud of it.
Downtown the Musical still needs a good ORIGINAL book and we spend much time reading treatments. I’m still pursuing my chosen career as a musician and songwriter. I’ll get there soon!

Last Saturday’s Tommy James Show At The Palladium In NYC Was Cancelled Due To Some Band Members Being Sick
When it comes to touring news, it seems to be rather hit or miss out there right now…
Several shows have been postponed again due to Covid concerns … while other previously postponed tours are starting to kick up again.
For example, Rod Stewart has resumed his residency at The Colosseum in Las Vegas, performing his “All Hits” show.

Meanwhile, Eric Clapton, after no sooner announcing the dates for the US leg of his tour, had to pull off the road in the UK (including having to cancel an appearance at The Royal Albert Hall) when he tested positive for Covid. (Ol’ Slow Hand became quite vocal a while back from an anti-vax point of view after he had a bad reaction to his vaccination shot in February of 2021. Clapton said at the time, “My hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks. I feared I would never play again.”

The Who have never played Cincinnati, Ohio, again since the tragic incident of 1979 when eleven fans were crushed to death at one of their performances. (I was very surprised by this … but clearly it affected the band as well. It almost seems like they should have been coming back if only to do fundraisers to help out the families of those who lost their lives that day.)
From Noise 11 …
During their concert on Sunday, May 15th, Pete Townshend told the audience: “I’ve been trying to think of what to say, what would be cool to say, [and] what would be uncool to say.
“Really, there are no words that we can say that can mean [as much as] the fact that you guys have come out tonight and supported this event. Thank you so much.”
According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, the group paid direct tribute to those who died with black and white photos of the 11 victims projected onto the screen during ‘Love, Reign O’er Me’, and a full list of names followed the performance. The band also waived their fee for the gig and donated all ticket proceeds to local charities. Meanwhile, the families of nine of the eleven victims were in attendance, and they were given VIP front row tickets for the event.
At the end of the night, the band played ‘Baba O’Riley’ and were joined by students from Finneytown High School, which is where three of the victims of the tragedy studied.
Before the band left the stage, Roger Daltrey – who visited the school’s memorial site in 2018 – said: “You never get over it, but you gotta live.”
