The Sunday Comments ( 01 - 29 - 23 )

How about a duet on "Jolene" from Dolly and Mick? I think that would rock!

David Salidor

That'd work ...

Micky's already "Gone Country!!!"  (kk)

>>>It just may end up being the biggest album of Dolly’s long career … and he’s recorded 48 albums up to this point!!!  (kk)

Dolly got a sex-change operation??? That must have taken some time!!!

– Randy Price

An obvious typo …

There is absolutely NO mistaking Dolly’s lady parts!  (lol)  kk

Lots of talk about Nancy and Lee here lately …

And now comes news that their second duets album is being released on CD for the very first time … and in a deluxe edition, too!  Check out all of the information below:

https://theseconddisc.com/2023/01/27/got-it-together-nancy-and-lee-again-debuts-on-cd-in-march/

>>>It was a great show (which even featured a new track called “Changes” that really showcased Chubby’s voice and the band’s ability as musicians … I downloaded it immediately as soon as I got home.  With a rock band that strong, I wish he would have also done “Harder Than Diamond,” a track that got some FM Rock Radio airplay back in the ‘80’s.)  kk

The 1984 LP from which "Harder Than Diamond" comes is one I really love.  If you have not heard "Running" from that LP, you should.  There's also a nice version of "Under My Thumb" on that album.

Brad

I just checked and “Running” is not available as a download …

So, if you get a chance, please send me a copy, as I would love to hear it!  (kk)

Brad sent us Chubby's version of "Under My Thumb," too!

Some clarification on the second comment regarding Chubby’s performance at Bowzer’s Doo-Wop Party …

As faithful Forgotten Hits Readers already know, our East Coast Correspondent Shelley Sweet-Tufano ran a review of the show at the Mohegan Sun Casino ...

Our First Concert Review of the New Year (Thank You, Shelley!)

So when she saw Frank B.’s comment about Chubby NOT appearing, she was understandably confused!!!

>>>Bowzer's Doo-Wop Party Volume XXI At Mohegan Sun Casino on 1/15/23 … The Whole Show = 1 Hour & 44 Minutes.  They Left Out Final Act ... Chubby Checker Twisting!!!  (FB)

Kent,

The Volume XXI Bowzer Rock N Doo-Wop Party is the one I just attended this month. I don't understand this statement. Did I miss a previous comment?

Shelley

Not being familiar with the circumstances,  I wondered if perhaps there was a SECOND show … and maybe Chubby had taken ill and was unable to perform (???)  kk

The show ended just before 7:00 pm. The performers were leaving the arena between 7-8pm. Another show? Highly unlikely and not advertised.

If he hadn't stated the XXI and the correct date, I would not have paid it much mind.

Shelley

So I questioned Frank on this … and got this response …

KENT …

I Believe Chubby Checker Was There.

Here's What I Think Happened …

You Know How They Usually Take A Half Time Break? (So They Can Sell Stuff)

They Took A 15 Minute Break -- Before Chubby Checker's Finale.

I Think Whoever Was Recording The Concert Left Early.

There was Only One Show.

FRANK

That’s why you should only trust Forgotten Hits’ reviews of these events!!!  (lol)

OK, I guess this makes sense … although why bother to post a recording or commentary at all if you couldn’t even be bothered to sit thru the whole thing … ESPECIALLY skipping out before the headliner’s set!!!  (kk)

Bernie Taupin’s memoirs will finally be published this year (currently scheduled for September 12th here in the States … and a week earlier in the UK) … and this should make for a VERY interesting read.

Titled “Scattershot,” the book should provide a very interesting perspective on what it was like to be writing with one of the biggest rock and roll stars of all time, Sir Elton John.  (kk)

And, speaking of new books, here’s a guy who made his mark on several legendary bands during the course of his storied career …

You can follow the story of John Wetton in a brand new book … “An Extraordinary Life” …

Among the stories of friendship, music and sometimes craziness are reflections on what made John Wetton such an unforgettable musician and prog rock legend.

long with stories of John’s musical success are those from friends and family who do not steer clear of his problems, but rather explain the why, the how, and eventual triumph over them in honest and touching recollections. Along with the stories are personal and classic photos of John at work and play in two extensive photo sections of An Extraordinary Life.

He had a love for fast cars, fine food, coffee, the Rams (that’s Derby County for non-football followers), films, books, crosswords, current affairs, sport, languages, classical music – anything that would stimulate his mind that he could use to great effect in his music and lyrics.” - Geoff Downes.

More on the passing of Dean Daughtry, founding member of The Atlanta Rhythm Section, from Tom Cuddy …

And Chuck Buell’s on a roll this weekend …

After running our recent lists of aging musicians (for which Keith Richards seems to have become the designated poster boy … all in jest, of course … he’s actually younger than many of the folks on the list … but has taken on the legendary status of having been alive forever, dating back to the days of the dinosaurs), Chuck sent in THIS observation on Richards’ age, presented with a nod to ... and in the spirit of Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon, here are The Forgotten Hits "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" starring Kent and Chuck:

"Ho, ho, ho, Chuck!  How OLD is Keith Richards?!"

"Why, Kent, he's SO old, his driver's license is written in hieroglyphics!

He's so old, when he belches, he burps Dust!

Yeah, he's so old, the movie “Jurassic Park” brought back memories!

He's so old, the picture of the kid "Most Likely to Succeed" in his yearbook is Moses!

He's so old, his birth Certificate is a scroll!

His birthstone is Lava!

His blood type's been discontinued!"

"Ho, ho, ho! Ohhh, Chuck!"

That’s why we like to have funny at Keith Richards’ expense …

Like THIS shot of him holding newborn Betty White!!!  Lol  (kk)

He also sent in this weather advisory …

Possibly Tonight … but more probable Monday and Tuesday nights … nighttime temperatures in the Denver area are expected to drop to below zero.

In the Mountains, the Wind Chill is expected to plunge as low as 20 degrees below zero!

On a coincidental weather-related note, the meteorologist who created the Wind Chill Factor died yesterday.

He was 85.  But he felt like he was 65.

( OK, that coincidental note probably shouldn't be perceived as true . . . ! )

CB ( which stands for “Cold Boy!” )

[OK, that one cracked me up! - kk]

And finally, this observation …

A look back at our early downloading procedure …

(Yeah, me … and about a million OTHER people!!!  Lol!)
