Why You Shouldn’t Care Too Much About the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

One big mistake in the article …
Sheryl Crow didn’t finish second in the fan voting …
In fact, she didn’t even make The Top Five, each of whom earned a vote on the official Rock Hall Ballot (although NONE of the other Top Five Candidates made it into The Hall this year.)
Second place went to Cyndi Lauper (who also led the pack at various time during the fan vote) … but her name was nowhere to be found when the list of 2023 Inductees was announced.
There is, however, one major strand of truth here …
Once all of the “obvious” candidates were inducted, early on, it left a very shallow pool of artists to choose from moving forward. I mean, let’s face it … how many artists in the History Of Rock And Roll can measure up to acts like Elvis and The Beatles … Buddy Holly and The Rolling Stones … Chuck Berry, Little Richard … Ray Charles, The Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Supremes and The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Kinks, The Who, Simon and Garfunkel, The Platters …
But by 1990, all of these artists were already in.
How do you award equal weight to some of the artists who have been inducted since?
(Sure, somebody like Michael Jackson who turned the music world upside down, was a “given” … and even he had to wait until 2001 to be inducted as a solo artist … but nearly every year since, there have been at least two or three head-scratchers on the list that make you wonder what THEIR criteria is vs. the rest of the world’s … especially when you see SO many great, deserving names still not inducted.)
To paraphrase Bobby Lamm …
Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care? (kk)
