IT'S OCTOBER!!!
Well, if the first two tracks released are any indication, this could be the best Rolling Stones album ever.
Their first LP of new material in 18 years, “Hackney Diamonds,” has already offered up a couple of gems. I’ve been playing the heck out of “Angry” since the day it was released (I absolutely LOVE this video!!!) and now “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven,” featuring Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder has become my new obsession.
The band sounds great on this track – and a lyrics-only video has also been released.
The best review I saw said “If you were wondering if The Rolling Stones still had their fastball, just listen to ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven.’” Yeah … it’s that good! (I don’t think I’ve EVER been this excited about a new Rolling Stones release!) kk
Boy, talk about your radio promotions gone wrong!!!
Here in Chicago, The Drive, the city’s premier Classic Rock Station, has been offering up tickets to the ultimate concert experience … air fare, hotel accommodations and tickets to see Aerosmith performing live on New Year’s Eve in Boston as well as tickets to see Bruce Springsteen live in Los Angeles ... and now BOTH artists have postponed their tours into 2024 due to health issues. (It may be time to FINALLY recognize the fact that even the very best of our prime rockers are getting old, just like the rest of us!)
Aerosmith, already on tour delay because of Steven Tyler’s ruptured vocal cord, made the announcement last week that Tyler also fractured his larynx. (He had previously postponed shows due to a return visit to rehab … so suffice to say that ol’ Steven has been having some issues of late!)
Meanwhile, The Boss is suffering from a peptic ulcer disease … so HIS shows have been postponed until 2024 as well.
(After a recent hospital stay by Madonna, the sudden passing of Jimmy Buffett after just completing what will turn out to be his last album, another spike in Covid cases, it’s no wonder that Stephen Bishop sent out a notice to all of his followers last week that he’s not planning to return to the road until 2025!!!)
Meanwhile, we’re off to see Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band next week. (Ringo also had to cancel or postpone a number of dates on his last road trip!) But we’re looking forward to this one. Hopefully everybody will be at the top of their game healthwise! (kk)

I don't recall the value of this album when it was brand new and first released but now Phil found me at a, no doubt, much lower price at . . . Goodwill?!
It reminds me of the 1986 movie, "Ruthless People," where Bette Midler's character is held for ransom and her husband won't pay the kidnappers' original ransom demand so they drastically lower their amount in ever decreasing increments and Midler delivers one of the best lines in the movie!

Just watched a long but in depth video someone sent me on Paul Revere & the Raiders. Who knew they changed from Paul Revere and the Nightriders to Raiders because of the popularity of the Oakland Raiders? I think is excellent because it gives 10 second clips of many LP and 45 songs as well as chart info and great photos and most all of their LPs being played on phonos. I would love to have the RNR Hall see this because they WERE AM radio top 40 RNR perfection, IMO. Yet, the host is critical of many LPs and songs that I like, but he is using revisionist thoughts as opposed to me, as a 9-15 year old who made his own radio charts and stand by what I charted and how I felt THEN as a pre-teen. Anyway, if you have time and LOVE those Raiders, this is a great documentary on them -- in two parts. I still remember when/where I bought those old 45s like "Just 17". We were in Wichita visiting my brother and lo and behold, a store there had this non-charter new 45 by them. Loved it! So many great memories. Hope you can enjoy this!

The best place to hear forgotten hits of the past continues to be TV commercials. The advertisers choose songs that relate to what they're selling.
Here are some I've heard lately …
"Sleepwalk" to sell mattresses. That makes sense.
So does "Up Around the Bend" in a car commercial.
I can see "Stand By Me" to promote an insurance company.
But using "Born To Be Wild" to sell ... Pampers?

I just heard “How Glad I Am” softly playing in the background of a television commercial the other night … couldn’t tell you what the product was … but it was SO good to hear this GREAT track again, perhaps the most unlikeliest hit back in 1964 during the height of The British Invasion … and by a jazz artist, no less, on the pop charts. Nancy Wilson went all the way to #11 that year, however … and no, I don’t mean Nancy Wilson of Heart.
Just give a listen to this “timeless and memorable” track! (kk)

For the first time ever, The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony will be streamed live this year. Thanks to Disney+, you’ll be able to see and hear all of the artists as they are both inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame … and perform with an elite list of celebrity rockers. (Elton John is even coming out of retirement to perform!) Presumably, this means Disney+ will also be airing all of the cursing and foul language that will most likely be going on as well! (lol) Oh, Disney, you sure have come a long, long way!
The event takes place November 3rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. An edited broadcast will air on ABC (owned by Disney) on New Year’s Day … which means HBO, who has hosted this event since its inception, is completely out of the picture this year.
