In addition to being nominated for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, it was just announced that Cher will be the recipient of the Icon Award at this year's iHeart Radio Awards.
According to a press release, iHeart is “honoring her unparalleled contributions to music and pop culture for over seven decades.”
Cher has sold more than 100 million records during her career and is currently the only artist to have a #1 single on the Billboard charts for seven consecutive decades.
Previous recipients of the award include Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Bon Jovi and Pink. (Now that's some pretty odd company!) kk

It actually makes me sick to think that this was once acceptable. Any transgression by a girl warranted violence (she deserved it!) and the only way a boy could prove his love was with jealous anger.
It makes me sicker to know that this still exists today.

That has always been my biggest objection to the whole angry gangsta rap music scene … it seems to be all about keeping your bitch (not even your woman) in line … and often by using the cruelest and filthiest methods to do so.
Music is supposed to ENTERTAIN, not incite …
The fact that even a Hal David / Burt Bacharach song like “Wives And Lovers” was considered “acceptable” at the time just blows me away.
Don't get me wrong ... Hal David was a great lyricist, one of the best ... and in hindsight this song almost sounds kind of "camp" ... but the truth is, this was the prevailing train of thought at the time ...
Women better know their place or risk losing their man to his seductive secretary back at the office. It was still very much a "Mad Men" sort of existence back in 1964. (kk)
The photo that you ran of Clay/Ali standing over Liston, who is on his back, is from the infamous rematch in Lewiston, Maine, and not from the Miami Beach fight. (Personal note: I listened to the Miami Beach fight on a transistor radio while attending a local performance of the Harlem Globetrotters national team, with Bob "Showboat" Hall and not Meadowlark Lemon, at a local high school gym.)

I’ve had a tough time locating accurate information when trying to build a calendar of events 60 years in hindsight … you sure can’t trust everything you find on the internet … and in some cases, even trying to get three corroborating sources has been quite difficult … but hopefully at least, we’re capturing the spirit of the era in The Land Of Long Ago. (Stole that from Stephen King … just finished reading his 850 page “11.27.63,” which is all about time travel back to the date of the Kennedy assassination … and the lead character’s attempt to prevent the assassination. Good book.)

Bob Heil, inventor of the talk box, passed away earlier this week … he was 83.
Heil’s gadget certainly MADE songs like “Do You Feel Like We Do” and “Show Me The Way” from “Frampton Comes Alive” stand out … a personal favorite is Joe Walsh’s use of the talk box on “Rocky Mountain Way.”
Guitarists have always looked for ways to make THEIR instrument stand out from others … and Heil’s box provided that edge. Thank you for your services! (kk)
