60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
10/4/64 – The St. Louis Cardinals clinch the National League pennant on the last day of the season by beating The New York Mets by a score of 11 to 5.
This, in combination with The Cincinnati Reds’ 10-0 loss to The Philadelphia Phillies, pushed The Cardinals one game ahead to take the pennant.
(Had both teams won today, a one-off playoff game would have been played between The Cardinals and The Reds.)
10/4/64 – 10/7/64 - Hurricane Hilda kills 38 in Louisianna, Mississippi and Georgia
