9/25/65 – The Beatles Cartoons series begins on ABC-TV.The very first episode has the Fab Four
submerged to explore the ocean floor where they encounter a lovesick
octopus.They perform “I Want To Hold
Your Hand,” which, in this case, equates to eight arms to hold you!(Sorry, I just couldn’t resist!)Too bad they wouldn’t record Ringo’s
“Octopus’ Garden” for another four years!(Heck, even “Yellow Submarine” would have worked … but that one was
still a year away, too!)And they didn’t
even use “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” … that one didn’t pop up until
Episode 6.
Also on 9/25, 60 year old Satchel Paige pitches three
scoreless innings for the Kansas City Athletics
An interesting take in Billboard this past week in light of the recent passing of Robert Redford.
Redford is one of only four actors who appeared in films
where the signature songs from those films went on to top Billboard’s Hot 100
Pop Singles Chart.(For Robert it was
the films “The Way We Were” … title song … “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”
– “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” … and “Up Close And Personal,” which
featured the Celine Dion chart-topper “Because You Loved Me.”
Also scoring THREE films with #1 singles are Richard Gere
(“Up Where We Belong” from “An Officer And A Gentleman,” “Call Me” from “American
Gigolo” and “It Must Have Been Love” from “Pretty Woman”), Emilio Estevez
(“Don’t You Forget About Me” from “The Breakfast Club,” “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man
In Motion)” and “Blaze Of Glory” from “Young Guns II”) and, of course, the
tulu-baby Beatles:“A Hard Day’s Night”
and “Can’t Buy Me Love” from “A Hard Day’s Night, “Ticket To Ride” and “Help!”
from “Help!” and “Let It Be” and “The Long And Winding Road” from “Let It Be.”
These guys not only pulled the three movie hat trick … but scored TWO #1

My Dad worked on the first season of "Hogan's Heroes" ... and then
worked on Patty Duke's last season. Also found time to do "Village of
The Giants" in '65 and got to know Freddy Cannon and The Beau
Brummels, who filmed scenes at The Whisky a Go Go. Also around the same
time he did a Bobby Sherman cereal commercial! Do not recall the brand ... but I
do have a photo of Dad in a giant cereal bowl! Just last week the N.Y.
Times did a piece on cereal bowl records!

I have the complete set of Monkees cereal box records ... and they really don't play well ... but were such a novelty, I just had to have them, even if I didn't like the cereal that came along with them! (lol)

Got this from FH Reader and frequent contributor Clark Besch several days before Jimmy Kimmel made headlines for an entirely different reason ...
I'm sure it was planned to be
delayed this way, but Spinal Tap reunited last night on Kimmel an hour AFTER
the show normally starts (thanks to football) and it was superb! Their
new movie should be awesome! Starts Friday, I think. IF you have
not seen the first film, you should watch it ahead of time.

old, too. You will get to hear how far the volume goes to now on their 11
amp!
We went to see the new Spinal
Tap movie. Not as funny as the first, but still very good. Younger
folks may not care as much since this is band as older players and to be
honest, the songs are not always hard rock sounding. Still, for people
who saw the first one and loved that, this is well worth seeing. Good
stuff for old rockers and rock fans of 70s days. Heck, you get an entire
concert too -- well worth seeing for $10 movie cost. It was good and they
keep it going right thru credits so that when show is over, it is ALL
over! It was funny that only seven were in audience yesterday when it
opened here, but all agreed it was good.

I have to admit that I had some reservations about running this item ...
When did this happen? (Near as I can determine, Macca last played the O2 Arena on December 18th of 2024, or nearly a year ago ... and I couldn't find anything about any type of disturbance during the show.)
I found this video of that entire show ("Let It Be" comes on at approximately the 1:04 mark, right after "Get Back" ... and there is a noticeable edit as McCartney moves from bass guitar to piano .. but this whole "calming of the audience" thing isn't evident at all ... and besides, why would protesters start vocalizing an hour into the show? I dunno ... I just ran what I was given. (kk)

60 years ago, WLS in Chicago
started playing my all-time fave song (BUT not bubbling under the Billboard Hot
100 until November) … ready to spring into the Super Charts SOON! After a
month of airplay on the Big 89, it would surface at #31 on October 8th, 1965
almost 60 years ago. On TELEPHONE Records, so maybe this was a WLS
international grab from his friends in Britain, where (below) it debuted in The
top 50 at #16 THIS WEEK on the charts there! Bring on the tributes to
this masterpiece!Ha-ha! It certainly was a BIG part of my love
for WLS -- the only station I heard playing this at the time.
It would not reach the BB Hot
100 until November 20th (#95) while on WLS, it was an oldster, still peaking at
#3 and ready to move down in its 10th week on the WLS airwaves. I still
play my WLS tape I made of it in Top 10 often. I could play this song for
24 hours straight still today if needed. :)
