Herman's Hermits top the chart this week with their version of the Sam Cooke classic "Wonderful World". (It would be a hit again for Art Garfunkel, James Taylor and Paul Simon in 1978.) Peter Noone told our readers that Producer Mickie Most brought Herman's Hermits and The Animals into the studio to record tribute records to Sam Cooke after he was shot and killed in December of 1964. (The Animals recorded "Bring It On Home To Me", which we haven't seen chart yet here in Las Vegas.)
Them continue to do EXTREMELY well on every local chart we've seen thus far ... I don't understand how their records didn't chart higher nationally as it seems every city across the USA was playing them ... and selling them well enough to fall into the top two or three spots on the chart! Here we find "Here Comes The Night" at #2, ahead of monster summer hits like "Satisfaction", "I Can't Help Myself" and "Mr. Tambourine Man".
Johnny Rivers leaps an incredible 23 points to #8 with "Seventh Son". Also doing extremely well are "Cara Mia" by Jay and the Americans (up to #17 from #34) and Wayne Fontana's "It's Just A Little Bit Too Late", jumping from #40 to #18.
We always get a great response when we feature Dickey Lee's "Laurie" (#16 this week), so we'll spin that one again, too. And one of my favorite, overlooked Elvis songs premiers this week at #38 ... "(Such An) Easy Question", backed by "It Feels So Right".
