Bread takes over the #1 spot this week with "Make It With You" with "Close To You" falling to #2. (For some reason, I have always associated these two songs together ever since. As I mentioned before, there just seemed to be a shift to "The Soft Rock '70's" right around this time and these two tracks provided the PERFECT soundtrack to kick things off. Both Bread and The Carpenters would prove to be consistent hit-makers throughout the decade.)
Meanwhile, "Spill The Wine" inches up to #3 ... and Ronnie Dyson's "Why Can't I Touch You" now sits comfortably at #5.
Three songs break into The Top Ten for the first time this week ... "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" sits at #7, "Are You Ready" is right behind it at #8 and "Mississippi Queen" closes up the ranks at #10.
Crow moves up another ten spots with "Cottage Cheese" (now sitting at #16), "I Just Can't Help Believin'" is now the #17 song, up 13 places from #30 and The Assembled Multitude are now holding down the #18 spot with "Overture From Tommy," a move of 15 places.
"Hi-De-Ho" by Blood, Sweat and Tears climbs up another 10 places while Ike and Tina Turner have the only "official" premier this week with their version of the Sly and the Family Stone tune "I Want To Take You Higher." (All three of last week's Hit Bound tunes make an impressive showing this week as well.)
The Clarence Carter tune "Patches" is another guilty pleasure of mine ... so I've gotta feature THAT one this week, too!
