"War" holds down the #1 spot for the fifth consecutive week, an unprecedented event since WCFL relaunched their weekly survey feature. ("Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel managed a four week run earlier this year ... but the last time ANY record stayed on top of the 'CFL chart this long was February / March of 1968 when Paul Mauriat pulled off the trick with "Love Is Blue" .... hardly the record you'd think Top 40 Teen Fiends would be running out to the store to buy!!!)
"Solitary Man," "Groovy Situation" and "Patches" all retain their "bullets" in the #2, 3 and 4 positions ... while "Candida" and "Rubber Duckie" come crashing into The Top Ten for the first time at #'s 8 and 9.
"All Right Now" makes a move of 14 places as it climbs from #31 to #17.
The Carpenter have a new song on the chart this week with "We've Only Just Begun," a tune that first saw life as a television wedding / banking commercial!
The Jackson Five are back, too ... with a ballad this time, "Ill Be There" ... it premiers at #39.
We haven't heard from The Kinks in awhile ... their last 'CFL hit was in 1966 ... but they're back on the chart this week with a tune called "Lola" ... it premiers at #31.
And I kinda like the New Seekers tune "Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma," a song written by Melanie, who recently reached The Top Five with her debut hit, "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)."
