>>>Al Jardine's Family And Friends Show - CONCERT REVIEW
This is what The Rip Chords played several year back in 2000. Some of the nicest and most talented people, ever! Especially Al - a lovely, talented, and modest man.
And, RIP Billy Hinsche (late of Dino, Desi and Billy and The Beach Boys’ Band). Billy was terrific. Talented, funny, and a helluva good guy. (I’m still close with keyboard player Tom Jacob - an exceptional musician and a great guy.) I have fond memories and I’m honored to have been a part of it.

Man, now I wanna see it even more!!!
Here's hoping they keep the groove going some more this fall when Al finishes his tour with Brian Wilson! (kk)
And, talking about tours, Paul McCartney has added his first UK date to his recently announced 2022 Got Back tour … on June 25th, he’ll take part as one of the headliners in the 2022 Glastonbury Festival. (Will more European dates follow? I’m guessing yes … stay tuned for more details.) kk
And, since we're on the topic of Dinosaur Rock Tours, look for The Rolling Stones to announce their planned European tour within the week. (It sounds like an appearance at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium is a shoe-in ... it'll be the first time The Stones have performed there since 1971! ... and two nights in London’s Hyde Park are also planned as part of the British Summer Time festival. (Full details and other dates are due to be announced by March 14th.)
Since this year marks The Rolling Stones' 60th Anniversary, look for a new album as well. Reports say that Mick and Keith have been holed up in Jamaica (ahh, the poor bastards!) writing and recording new songs for the album. (The Rolling Stones made their first official live appearance as a band on July 12th, 1962, at London's Marquee Jazz Club. At the time, the line-up consisted of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, bassist Dick Taylor and drummer Mick Avory.)
Voting for the 2022 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees has now passed the three million mark, with Duran Duran still leading the pack with approximately 560,000 votes, followed by Eminem (with 516,000 votes) … and then a distant third (Pat Benatar, 336,000 votes) as well as Dolly Parton and Eurythmics, both of whom now have over 200,000 votes each (260,000 and 234,000 respectively, to be more specific). Voting ends April 29th with this year’s inductees announced shortly after that. (Well, MY Top Three are on the Top Five list … are yours???) So far only The New York Dolls, Beck, MC5 and Fela Kuti have failed to pass the 100,000 vote mark. (kk)

SPEAKING OF “WOW” SONGS …
I actually “Wowed” Out Loud the other night when, during an episode of the Hulu Series “Pam And Tommy” (yes, we’ve watched the whole thing!) I heard them playing “So You Are A Star” by The Hudson Brothers, one of my VERY favorite songs from the ‘70’s (which made absolutely NO sense at all in a scene from 1994!)
Still, it was GREAT to hear (‘cause where else are you gonna hear it?!?!) … so it went IMMEDIATELY on MY “Wow” list (along with “Shame Shame” by The Magic Lanterns, that gets me going every single time I hear it … which isn’t often enough! … and “I’m Just Waitin’ Anticipatin’” by The New Colony Six, which I have been known to request from time to time on Rewound Radio! (kk)
Rock Cellar Magazine provided this update on the new Weird Al Yankovic biopic parody … this is going to be a VERY fun movie!!! (Hasn’t Weird Al’s entire career been essentially a parody?!?!)
Meanwhile, the REAL Madonna is in the process of casting someone to play herself in HER upcoming biopic … so stay tuned for that as well. (kk)
>>>For the record, Goldsboro's "California Wine" peaked at #108 in Billboard (kk)
Hi Kent:
This Goldsboro tune has LONG been a favorite of mine. Never understood why it wasn't a bigger hit. Goldsboro is usually thought of as a bland middle-of-the-road singer for his biggest hits.
But if you look deeper, you find tunes like "California Wine". "It's Too Late" and "Voodoo Woman" which are excellent pop songs of 'our era'.

I think Bobby probably fell victim to the Program Director curse …
Some of his music may have sounded just a little too “down home” to make the grade on a radio station that by 1968 was playing Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge, CCR and a few others. (The eventual backlash to his #1 smash “Honey” certainly didn’t help matters any!)
But I’m in total agreement … Bobby’s hits “It’s Too Late,” “Glad She’s A Woman,” “Voodoo Woman,” “I’m A Drifter,” “Muddy Mississippi Line” and even “Watching Scotty Grow” always made me feel good the few times I got the chance to hear them! (And I’ve always been a big fan of “With Pen In Hand,” too … although I will admit that I much prefer the Billy Vera version over any others that I’ve heard.)
Bobby came back in a big way in 1973 with “Summer (The First Time),” the record I always refer to as the REAL soundtrack to “The Summer of ’42!!!” (kk)
UPDATE: “California Wine” was actually supposed to run with yesterday’s survey … but it fell thru the cracks …
So here it is today … along with “Muddy Mississippi Line,” a #41 hit from 1969. (#53 in Billboard)
