Here’s a “Hummer” of a story from our in-resident “Music Professor of Forgotten Hits History,” Chuck Buell …
Today, January 28, is “National Kazoo Day, the day that recognizes nearly 200 years of Kazoo Music in the United States. Unofficial CB Motto: “If You Can Hum It, You Can Play It!”
Historically in 1916, based on a previous wood design, “The Original American Kazoo Company” began producing metal kazoos. And they’re still humming right along making them today in Eden, New York!
So, in recognition of this day, as your Official Forgotten Hits Fun Meister, here’s my “National Kazoo Day Mystery Minute Medley Game!”
How many of these Classic Forgotten Hits can you name that incorporates a Kazoo or a Kazoo-like sound?!
(The Answers, if you really need them, can be found at the end of today’s Forgotten Hits, so “Stay Tuned!”)
Which brings to mind that age-old question, “If you can’t Tuna Fish, how can you possibly Tune a Kazoo?!"
CB ( which stands for “Cazoo Boy” )
Last year, Chuck paid tribute to the recorder, a wooden flute-like instruments that many of us had to learn to play in grade school.
Soon, a new national craze was born ... and recorders were flying off the shelves all over the country, with inspired oldies fans (and youngsters alike!) wanting to see what tunes THEY could come up with (or, in most cases) mangle on a recorder of their very own.
If a similar craze develops thanks to Chuck's latest musical suggestion ...
"If you can hum it, you can play" ...
There is no telling just how out of hand this really could get.
That's right, folks ...
Literally overnight we could be experiencing kazoos up the yazoo before you know it!
Oh yeah ... I almost forgot ...
