Can you believe we’re less than a month away from the Third Annual WLS / WCFL Rewound Labor Day Weekend Radio Special???
I, for one, can’t wait.
(Truth be told, I’m STILL listening to clips in my car from the past two
weekend salutes! I just cant get enough of this stuff!)
Ted Gorden Smucker fills us in on some of the details …
It is coming up at the end of this month ...
The Third Annual WLS/WCFL Rewound, all Labor Day Weekend on Rewound Radio.
With the help from our “Forgotten Hits” friends Kent and Timmy, John Gehron from WLS, and a few others, we have tons of “new” old recordings from WLS and WCFL to share. Practically all of our airchecks will be fresh, having not aired over our previous Rewounds. (We may sneak in a couple of replays over the weekend, just to make sure that some of our friends get the recognition they deserve for helping us with the event.)
This year is doubly exciting as WLS Celebrates their 100th Anniversary, having gone on the air in 1924. Plus, WCFL is being inducted into the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum Radio Station Hall of Fame this coming October 20th in Joliet. Both of these accomplishments are monumental, and our event will highlight some of the history of both of these stations.
Hats off to Scott Childers, WLS Historian and Author, for his involvement in this effort. Special Thanks to Tommy Edwards and Lisa Orkin, as will hear stand-alone episodes of “Animal Stories” and “Chickenman” peppered throughout the three-day weekend.
If you are a fan of music specials, we plan on airing Dick Biondi’s “Rock Around the Clock,” highlighting the songs and artists of 1965. You will also hear a replay of “WLS Music People,” in which Steve King memorializes Elvis, in a special that was taped just a few days after his death. Naturally, the weekend would not be complete without the airing of the “WLS Montage,” this time featuring music from 1955-1978.
Bill Shannon and Steve Brelsford have been working with me as we buff and polish old airchecks and produce new promos for 2024. We have a jingle montage of the DJs of the past, and we invite you to tune into WLS/WCFL Rewound to see how many of these DJs will be featured over the long holiday weekend.
See you Saturday morning, August 31st, at 6 am ET / 5 am CT as we kick off the 2024 Edition of WLS/WCFL Rewound, heard exclusively on RewoundRadio.com.
