60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
10/27/64 – 31 year old Salvatore Philip Bono (Sonny) married 18 year old Cherilyn Sarkisian La Piere (Cher) ... sort of.
Cher performs the ceremony for themselves … but they aren’t LEGALLY married until 1969.
After just a few short months, Sonny and Cher are already one of the hottest duos on the music scene … and when their hippie-act wears thin a few years from now, the couple will reinvent themselves as Las Vegas Headliners, even hosting their own very successful television variety show.
They will split in 1975 … but always remain close.
Although still relatively unknown at the time, the duo would score FOUR Top 20 Hits over the course of the next year, including the #1 Hit "I Got You Babe"
Sonny died after a skiing accident in 1998 ..
Cher was inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame last weekend
