The Saturday Survey / October 4th, 1965

"Yesterday" reaches #1 in its third week on the chart.  The Beatles have now earned an incredible ELEVEN #1 Records since they first hit the US Charts 21 months ago.

"Treat Her Right" by Roy Head continues to climb ... it's up another four notches to #3 this week.

"A Lover's Concerto" makes another impressive fifteen point jump to #16 ... and Gary Lewis and the Playboys continue their climb, this week moving from #45 to #23 with their latest, "Everybody Loves A Clown."

And Bob Dylan, never really considered a pop singles artist, is up 27 places to #29 with "Positively 4th Street."  (Maybe plugging in wasn't such a bad move careerwise after all!)

The Four Seasons have this week's top debut at #65 with "Let's Hang On" ...

And Sonny and Cher have ANOTHER hit on their hands as "But You're Mine" premiers right behind it at #69.

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

10/4/65 – Johnny Cash is arrested in El Paso by US Customs for carrying over 1000 amphetamine pills.  He had just completed a short Texas tour and then hailed a cab from El Paso to Juarez to purchase several hundred pills. Narcotics agents were waiting for him and apprehended him on his return.  He spent a night in jail before posting bail.  (Ultimately, he received a suspended sentence after being fined $1000.)

Also on 10/4, Chess Records changes the name of its Argo record label subsidiary to Cadet Records to avoid confusion with a similarly-named British record label
