We find some nice surprises on this week's list from KJR in Seattle, Washington.
Billy Preston's got a Top 20 Hit with "That's The Way God Planned It," which comes in at #19 this week, just ahead of "Life And Breath," the follow-up release to Climax's "Precious And Few."
I don't know that I've ever seen the Jerry Butler / Brenda Lee Eager duet "Close To You" on a Top 40 Chart before. (It topped out at #91 in Billboard ... although it DID reach #66 in both Cash Box and Record World.)
And check out the track just below it at #26 ...
"We Can Make It Together" is a "duet" of sorts by the trio of Steve (Lawrence) and Eydie (Gorme) ... and The Osmonds. (I suppose that would really make it more like seven all together, wouldn't it?!?!?!) It's honestly not that bad a tune ... although in 1972, this is definitely NOT what The Osmond Brothers' teeny-bopper fans wanted to hear from them!
Jerry Wallace is back on this week's chart, too, climbing from #36 to #31 with "If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry" ... and, in what just may be the biggest about-face ever, Emerson, Lake and Palmer climb five notches from #40 to #35 with "From The Beginning."
One of my favorites from '72, "Something's Wrong With Me" by Austin Roberts, premiers at #38. (Austin used to participate with Forgotten Hits many moons ago ... so it'll be nice to feature this one again.)
KJR first signed on the air back in the 1920's ... and at one time was owned by Danny Kaye and Frank Sinatra! It enjoyed a nice Top 40 run in the '60's and '70's before going all sports ... which it still is today.
