This hour, a couple of tracks that did much better here in Chicago than they did nationally ...
First up, I'M COMIN' HOME by STORIES, who wouldn't really hit pay dirt until 1973 with BROTHER LOUIE. Their first chart single, I'M COMIN' HOME, however, went to #22 on our WCFL Chart (although it failed to chart across the river on WLS.)
Billboard only placed it at #42 ... but Cash Box (#26) and Record World (#28) both showed it making the National Top 30.
Then, in 1980, THE KINGS scored a #9 Hit on the WLS Chart (WCFL was gone by then), despite only a #43 showing in Billboard.
Although each side of this 45 single showed these two tunes as different tracks (ala WE WILL ROCK YOU / WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS), FM Radio played the heck out of them as the medley that appeared on their debut album ...
So THIS BEAT GOES ON / SWITCHIN' TO GLIDE appears that way, too, as part of our COMING AND GOING WEEKEND.
