You never forget your first set of wheels ... no matter how down and dirty and unreliable it may have been.
But even MORE romantic is your first NEW car ... you know, the one you bought with your own money. (Mine was a 1972 Chevy Vega GT ... orange with a black racing stripe down the hood ... I went thru FOUR engines on that car, ALL replaced under warranty when it was discovered that Chevy's blocks were melting once the engine got hot!)
Our FH Buddy Chuck Buell tells us about HIS first wheels ...
Looks back and then talks about new cars today ...
Well, This Headline Was Of Some Interest To Me!
The Wait is Over: The NEW 2024 Chevrolet Chevelle 70/SS Has Arrived!
I wonder if it's available in a Maroon-like "Palomar Red" like my New 1964 Chevy Malibu SS was in 1964! First NEW Car I ever bought!
"Top of the Line Sticker Price for the 2024 is around $165,000 without Tax, License and Dealer Prep.
"And that was with trading in my Good Ole 1953 Chevy "Refrigerator!" (So named by my Friends because I had it painted Arctic White!)
This is my 1964 Malibu Super Sport Window Sticker that by law then had to appear on one of the car's windows ~~~
Some things to note on that Price Sticker ~~~
The Pair of Optional Front Seat Safety Lap Only Seat Belts were less than - $8! Over the Shoulder Belts weren't a thing then!
Big Upgrade to 220 Horsepower - $54!
It cost more to be able to shift with its 4-on-the-floor tranny - $188!
Had to have a wood steering wheel with matching wood gear shift ball knob even tho they were only simulated wood - $32!
Upgrade to 2-Ply Thin White Sidewalls - $30
And to add a Tach, had to have a tach - $50!
All in all, nearly $120 more to be Cool!
Now, no surprise, I had to get the extra optional push button, not a dial, AM radio! It's hard to read the small print disclaimer at the bottom of the price sticker that says, "Radio Price Includes Antenna!" Thank goodness for that! Then it goes on to point out, "Does Not Include Installation of Antenna!"
Wait! Was I supposed to drive around holding the radio antenna out the Driver's Side Window?!
Well, the Dealer did install it before I took delivery.
And "That's Why I Love LUBY!!" *
I really did love that car!
CB ( which stands for "Car Boy!" )
* Longtime Denver People will recognize that slogan as the Luby Chevrolet Dealer Commercial Jingle!
