1972 Survey - January 21st - Missouri

Now this WHB survey out of Kansas City, Missouri, is probably a bit more representative of how these records were charting everywhere else in the country at the time.  (Last week's Boston chart seemed to be a bit ahead of the curve ... especially when it came to showing Nilsson's "Without You" at #1 for what was already its second week.)

Still, "American Pie," "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing," "Day After Day" and "Brand New Key" seem to rank right where they belong, in The Top Five.

Nilsson's record is still on the rise in KC (up from #26 to #13 this week), as is "Hurting Each Other" by The Carpenters, which moves from #31 to #14, a jump of seventeen places!

Three Dog Night have BOTH of their most recent singles on this week's chart with "Never Been To Spain" on the rise (and currently sitting at #6) and "An Old-Fashioned Love Song" making its way down the chart, slipping ten places from #13 to #23.

Note that ALL of the charts we've shown so far this year are now including the best-selling albums in their rankings, a definite trend in the way people were buying their music in 1972.
