June 14th, 1965 ... and THE SATURDAY SURVEY

The Four Tops earn their first #1 Hit as "I Can't Help Myself" (without question, one of the catchiest songs on the radio today) vaults to #1 from last week's #4 position .

The Byrds and The Yardbirds continue their flight into The Top Ten as "Mr. Tambourine Man" soars to #3 ... and "For Your Love" is now perched at #9.

Patti Page has her biggest hit in seven years as "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" now sits just outside The Top Ten at #11.  Meanwhile, Johnny Rivers continues his climb up the chart, moving from #72 to #50 to #22 this week with "Seventh Son."

And how about The Rolling Stones???  They vault 55 POINTS from #79 to #24 with "Satisfaction."  (I don't know about you, but I smell a hit!!!)

Also making significant moves are "Cara Mia" by Jay and the Americans (up 27 places from #65 to #37) and "A World Of Our Own" by The Seekers, up 22 spots from #64 to #42, no doubt helped by their appearance earlier this week on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

Down at #65, we find The Kinks up 28 spots with "Set Me Free" in their second week on the chart ...

While this week's highest chart debut belongs to Elvis Presley, with one of MY personal favorites, "(Such An) Easy Question."  It premiers at #77.

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

6/14/65 – “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher is released

Also on 6/14, “Beatles VI” is released … another US-only LP composed of leftover tracks that Capitol Records had removed from previous releases … other than “Bad Boy” … this track wouldn’t first appear on a British LP until “A Collection Of Beatles Oldies” was released many years later

Also on 6/14, Cincinnati Reds pitcher Jim Maloney no-hits New York Mets … but loses in 11 innings, 1-0.

Maloney allowed no hits thru the first ten innings of the game, striking out 18 Mets along the way ...

But a home run in the 11th sealed his fate and The Reds came up on the losing end, 1-0.

Incredibly, he will No Hit The Chicago Cubs two months later ...

A game that ALSO went extra innings!!!

Only this time, the no hitter would stand as The Reds went on to win the game by a final score of 1-0!

Friday the 13th ... The Friday Flash ... and 60 Years Ago Today: June 13th, 1965 (definitely NOT your typical "Casual Friday"!!!)

A couple of years ago, we did an extensive search back thru all of the Friday the 13th's of The Top 40 Rock Era ...

Here's a link to that page again for your perusal ...

On this, the ONLY Friday the 13th of 2025 ...

THE FRIDAY FLASH:

It has been a tough week for Rock And Roll Icons …

First Sly Stone … then Brian Wilson … both innovative masters in their respective fields of the advancement of rock and roll music … both making contributions that forever altered the course, inspiring so many others to follow in their footsteps.

The one thing I can say about Brian’s music is that, despite all the sadness surrounding his death (and so many instances he had to deal with sadness during his lifetime), his music is SO happy and upbeat … “feel good” music to the nth degree … you can’t help but smile and feel better when you listen to it.

And, as Clark Besch pointed out the other day, listening to the music of Sly and the Family Stone really WAS about bringing people together … a unity of all races, men and women, using the band themselves as the best possible example.  It’s too bad so much of this music received a negative connotation due to the riots and disappointments associated with it at the time, fueled by excessive drug use.  (Seriously, read the books to see just how bad things had gotten!)

And then, still, put on “Dance To The Music,” “Everyday People,” “Hot Fun In The Summertime,” “I Want To Take You Higher,” “Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin,” “Everybody Is A Star,” “Family Affair” … and you can’t help but feel good inside.

Two VERY influential, talented individuals who made their mark on the scene at the time … and who continue to draw in new listeners discovering it for the first time some sixty years later.  (kk)

Here’s the first of what will likely be THREE installments of their “Forever Number One” series spotlighting the music of Sly and the Family Stone …

This one’s for “Everyday People,” #1 for four weeks in Billboard in early 1969 …

(I can only imagine how busy they’ll be putting together Forever Number One segments on The Beach Boys!!!  Meanwhile, they’ve already put together their Staff Picks for The Top Twenty Beach Boys Songs!)

A beautiful tribute from The Second Disc:

https://theseconddisc.com/2025/06/11/in-memoriam-brian-wilson-1942-2025/

This is one of my favorite Beach Boys videos – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it over the years.

Got a bit of a broken heart today – like you said, we all knew it was coming – but that doesn’t make it hurt any less.

Mrs. K

The Beach Boys: Please Let Me Wonder (Live - 1965)

Brian Wilson, my friend, my classmate, my football teammate, my Beach Boy bandmate and my brother in spirit, I will always feel blessed that you were in our lives for as long as you were.  I think the most comforting thought right now is that you are reunited with Carl and Dennis, singing those beautiful harmonies again. You were a humble giant who always made me laugh and we will celebrate your music forever. Brian, I’ll really miss you … still I have the warmth of the sun within me tonight.

Al Jardine

The world mourns a genius today, and we grieve for the loss of our cousin, our friend, and our partner in a great musical adventure.  Brian Wilson wasn’t just the heart of The Beach Boys— he was the soul of our sound.

The melodies he dreamed up and the emotions he poured into every note changed the course of music forever. His unparalleled talent and unique spirit created the soundtrack of so many lives around the globe, including our own.

Together, we gave the world the American dream of optimism, joy, and a sense of freedom — music that made people feel good, made them believe in summer and endless possibilities.

We are heartbroken by his passing. We will continue to cherish the timeless music we made together and the joy he brought to millions over the decades. And while we will miss him deeply, his legacy will live on through his songs and in our memories.

Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and his loved ones during this difficult time.

The Beach Boys

Top of Form

Bottom of Form

Today, the world lost a genius, and I lost a cousin by blood and my partner in music.

Brian Wilson wasn’t just the heart of The Beach Boys — he was the soul of our sound. From the first time we sang together as kids in my living room, I knew there was something otherworldly in him. His musical gifts were unmatched. The melodies he dreamed up, the emotions he poured into every note — Brian changed the course of music forever.

Our journey together was filled with moments of brilliance, heartbreak, laughter, complexity and most of all, LOVE. Like all families, we had our ups and downs. But through it all, we never stopped loving each other, and I never stopped being in awe of what he could do when he sat at a piano or his spontaneity in the studio.

Brian’s unique artistry and our collaboration gave the world the American dream of optimism, joy, and a sense of freedom — music that made people feel good, made them believe in an endless summer and endless possibilities. It was one of the greatest blessings of my life to experience that creative space with him.

It was our privilege to make the world believe in sunshine, surfing, and teenage dreams. My life was forever changed by Pet Sounds, ‘God Only Knows,’ ‘In My Room,’ ‘Good Vibrations,’ ‘The Warmth of the Sun’ and a hundred other pieces of his soul wrapped in music. He allowed us to show the world what vulnerability and brilliance sound like in harmony. He was fragile, he was intense, he was funny — and he was one of a kind.

My wife, Jacquelyne, and I are heartbroken. She stood beside me through so many chapters of this story, and we both send our love and prayers to Brian’s family, his children, and all who were touched by his life and gifts.

Brian, you once asked, "Wouldn’t it be nice if we were older?" Now you are timeless. May you rest in the peace you so deeply deserve, surrounded by the heavenly music you helped create. May your spirit soar as high as your falsetto, may your wings spread in effortless flight.

Thank you for the harmonies, the memories, and the love. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

I’ll miss you forever, my beloved cousin.

Mike Love

From Paul McCartney:

Brian had that mysterious sense of musical genius that made his songs so achingly special. The notes he heard in his head and passed to us were simple and brilliant at the same time. I loved him, and was privileged to be around his bright shining light for a little while. How we will continue without Brian Wilson, ‘God Only Knows’.

Thank you, Brian.

– Paul

The news of Brian Wilson's death, while not a total surprise, is devastating.

We had been talking about people not knowing original versus new individuals in groups ...

Well, I just saw a comment on Facebook that bemoaned the fact that Peter Noone was to play with The Beach Boys at Foxwoods on June 26th and implying that now the concert would have to be cancelled.

What is it? 30 years since Brian played with The Beach Boys?

Last day of school and the last Wilson brother passes. I can't even get myself to laugh over this mis-statement. Just crying today.

Shelley

For years we’ve been bemoaning the fact that somebody other than Burton Cummings and/or Randy Bachman owned the rights to The Guess Who name … which FINALLY got rectified in the past few months after YEARS of battle and misrepresentation as to who you would actually see if you went to a Guess Who concert. (By the way, the first official Guess Who concert, now legally using this name and featuring Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings will take place aboard the Rock Legend Cruise in February ... more dates are expected to be announced shortly.)

https://parade.com/news/iconic-70s-rockers-reuniting-for-first-time-in-23-years

The fact that anyone OTHER than a Wilson has owned The Beach Boys’ name for the past several decades is every bit as disturbing to me.  There have been two or three sanctions functioning now for as far back as I can remember … plus more recently The Brian Wilson Band, which was recently taken over by Al Jardine and renamed The Pet Sounds Band.

But even The Beach Boys’ 50th Anniversary Tour, which reunited Brian, Al, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and even David Marks and special appearances by Dean Torrence, Wilson Phillips and Blondie Chaplin ended on a sour note when after one new album and the tour, Mike and Bruce went their own separate way again, retaining The Beach Boys’ name in the process.

They all made nice with each other for a scene filmed for the recent Disney+ television special … but then went back to bad-mouthing each other once the program had aired.

It’s a shame things ended the way they did – but will all three Wilson brothers gone now (and Mike approaching 85), one has to wonder how much longer Mike and Al will continue to front their own version of The Beach Boys’ hits.  (Several of The Beach Boys’ children have become members of the band over the years … who knows … maybe it’ll all be passed down to the next generation like any other successful family business!)  kk

Harvey Kubernik sent me an extended interview that he did with Brian Wilson a few years back.  It's too big to run here … but if you’d like to read it, drop me a note and I’ll send it along!

Meanwhile, here's the portion that they ran in Best Classic Bands ... along with a brand NEW interview (not included in either of these original pieces) that hasn't run before.  (kk)

From that short session, here is a different conversation with Brian Wilson.  (In Harvey's own words, Believe me, as the song from the Beatles goes, "Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown."

Q: What are your two favorite Paul McCartney bass lines?

A: “Michelle” and “All My Lovin’” would be two.

Q: Paul McCartney once said to me how much he liked the bass lines on Pet Sounds. I know you dug employing the bass as a principal instrument. Like on “Here Today” you conceived the idea of the bass playing an octave higher on the rhythm bed track.

A: Because the bass parts resound better in a studio and you can take three hours to get one line if you really needed it. You could take forever and get a goddamn line, you know.

Q: When did you start utilizing two bass players on the same music track, like on Pet Sounds?

A: I asked engineer Larry Levine what Phil Spector did with his basses and Larry said Phil uses a standup and a Fender both at the same time. And the Fender guy used a pick. So, I tried it out at my session at it worked great! You also get a thicker sound putting the two basses together. I start with drums, bass, guitar and keyboards. Then we overdub the horns and the background voices.

Q: Larry Levine also engineered Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass albums, and as we are speaking, Herb is driving into the parking lot right in front of us. I’m so glad this sort of neighborhood and music shit still happens when we get together. We’re still on the right path.

I remember talking to you there about Ken Nordine’s Word Jazz on the Dot Records label. Actually, Randy Wood and his Dot Records office were right next door to Wallachs Music City. I still talk to his son John Wood. And you had worldwide hit records at the time. You also bought comedy albums.

A: Jonathan Winters. I also loved How to Speak Hip by Del Close. Loren Schwartz who I lived with was the first guy who turned me on to it. Let’s have some dessert. It’s on me. I have money in the bank. I’m honored to pay for your lunch.

Q: Coolness! Then a slice of carrot cake to nosh on.

A: Rice pudding.

Q: Let’s talk food. Gotta restaurant you can suggest?

A: The Grill. Great salad. Pita bread. Good pasta dishes.

Q: Do you like Chinese food?

A: I love Chinese food. Sample plates.

Q: What about Japanese food. Dennis (Wilson) loved Ah Fong’s on Sunset.

A: I love Japanese food. Sushi! We can go right down the hall…

Q: What’s your favorite hamburger in the city?

A: Believe it or not, Cheesecake Factory. The big deluxe cheese mushroom burger. You get French fries with it. And the fries have to be crispy and well done with a little salt.

Q: What about Hamburger Hamlet? I had my first hamburger in nine years and it was great. I’m writing better now because I’m eating red meat now.

A: I like Hamburger Hamlet but they don’t do the French fries right.

Q: Do you eat hot dogs?

A: Yes. Chili, with a little bit of catsup and some onions on top. Pink’s Hot Dogs on La Brea. I could eat five of them right at this second. Haven’t had one in three years.

Q: Do you still like pizza?

A: We just ordered three of them last night! And two boxes of pizza are in our refrigerator just waiting for some idiot to eat them. (laughs). From Pizza Hut. Everything on them. Anchovies. Garlic.

Q: You of all people will appreciate this. Jack Nitzsche explained to me that garlic is like echo. You can never get enough of it.

A: Oh my God. Very good. Just the way you want it I understand it.

Q: Have you ever gone to Herb Alpert’s restaurant Vibrato?

A: At least 20 times. The raisin bread! Steak. Medium rare.

Q: I worship the Ahi tuna there. Herb is always around. He’s a fellow Fairfax High graduate. He played a benefit show for Mexico earthquake relief at our school in 1966.  It changed my life. The TJB brass sound!

A: He’s a very nice man.

Q: And what is your best local seafood restaurant?

A: Gladstone’s at the beach. Salmon. Because I know it’s good for me and has fish oil in it and unclogs my arteries.

Q: When did you start to drink Perrier water at each meal?

A: What happened was I drank soft drinks for five years and it fouled up my sleeping schedule, screwed up my thought process, fucked up my nerves, the sugar and caffeine, and two months ago I got off of it and feel 20 times better. What a lesson to learn…

Q: Do you remember the first day you walked into Capitol Records in 1962?
A: Yes. I remember walking into the building with my father and Gary Usher.
We met the A&R man, Nik Venet. And he listened to our demos and he signed us
right on the spot. We played him “409” and “Surfin Safari.” “I want to sign you guys right now.”
I just wanted to make records. I didn’t know how big it would get. I didn’t think it would.
Q: And look what it became for all of us on the planet. Thank you for the music.
A: Thank you for opening a can of worms I’ve forgot about. (laughs).
Q: Please stay healthy.
A: I take 22 vitamins every morning.
Q: That’s nice. Now I finally get to use my college degree. I was a Health, Sociology and
Literature Major. We both went to junior colleges in Southern California.
What do you take daily? I can name most of the vitamins by just by looking at you:
C, E, A, B, Garlic, Barlean’s Flax Oil, Selenium, Omega 3 fish oils. A general multi-vitamin and a multi-mineral.
A: Wow!
Q: I take a lot of these same vitamins. When I get a royalty check, a book advance or a writing gig,
I then afford a few other things, especially a top brand name Aloe Vera Juice. Do you not take it anymore?
A: I used to. I haven’t done it for a long time. I’ll get back on it.
Q: I’m sure you take Niacin. Not too much.
A: Yes.
Q: Ever turn red?
A: Yes. I went to a health food store and heard that Niacin gives you a rush. But they told me not to take too many.
And I did. My face turned bright red. I was afraid to go home because I knew I would get in trouble. So, I had to sit in my car
for five hours until the redness went away. (laughs).
Q: Brian … I used to see you at the Radiant Radish, a health food store you owned around 1971. You even stocked the shelves.
I got my first bottle of Kyolic Garlic from Gypsy Boots, who used to distribute his dates in the shop as well. It was a great hang.
It was mostly a vitamin store.
A: Yes. Vitamins, fresh vegetables and organic produce. We went out of business in one year. The guys who I worked with didn’t know how
to order right.
Do you have a copy of Holland with you or at your place? I need to hear “Funky Pretty” immediately.
Q: If the song ends up in your tour set, I’ll know where it came from.
A: Let’s do this again.

Brian Wilson was always so kind to me from the day I met him. He sang ‘Someone Saved My Life Tonight’ at a tribute concert in 2003, and it was an extraordinary moment for me. I played on his solo records, he sang on my album, The Union, and even performed for my AIDS Foundation.

I grew to love him as a person, and for me, he was the biggest influence on my songwriting ever; he was a musical genius and revolutionary. He changed the goalposts when it came to writing songs and shaped music forever. A true giant.

Elton John

Sorry to hear that Brian Wilson has died. The Beach Boys were the soundtrack of my summers, from 'Surfin' Safari' on.

Stephen King

RIP Brian –

We saw him together two times …

First the Pet Sounds Tour and then with seats in the 1st Row at The Genesee Theatre … with George who has also since left us.  One of the most memorable shows I’ve ever seen.

Bob

Those front row seats for what, I wanna say a dozen Forgotten Hits Readers, was UNBELIEVABLE!  Even I didn’t know that was coming!!!

So thank you again to Colleen Rogalski for hooking us up on that one!!!  (kk)

Our original review of the show:

https://forgottenhits60s.blogspot.com/2015/11/brian-wilson-concert-review.html

Brian Wilson didn’t just soundtrack my life … he filled it with color, with wonder, with some of the most unforgettable, emotional, joyful moments I’ve ever known. It’s hard to put into words what it meant to stand beside him, laugh with him, play his music with him. Brian wasn’t just a musical genius, he was a gentle, soulful, funny, complex, beautiful man. He heard things no one else could hear. He felt things deeper than most of us ever will. And somehow, he turned all of that into music that wrapped itself around the world and made us all feel less alone. I grew up worshipping the Beach Boys, never imagining one day I’d get to play with them, let alone call Brian a friend.

Brian gave the world Pet Sounds, God Only Knows and Wouldn’t It Be Nice.  Songs that didn’t just play in the background of our lives, they shaped who we were.  They shaped who I became.  His music made me feel things I didn’t know how to say.  It made me want to make people feel the way his music made me feel.  So much of my life and career, so much of me, exists because of what Brian created.

To Carnie, Wendy, the lovely Marily, to everyone who loved him, and especially to Mike … My heart is with you.

Brian once said, “Music is God’s voice.”  I believe he was right, and now that voice, his voice, is part of the divine chorus.  The music didn’t end.

Rest easy, Brian.  Thank you for the music.  Thank you for the moments.

I’ll carry them with me – forever.

With Love,

John Stamos

His cherished music will live forever as he travels through the Universe and beyond. God bless you, sweet Brian. One of the biggest thrills of my life was singing ‘California Girls’ with Brian.

Nancy Sinatra

Heard the sad news about Brian today and thought about all the years I’ve been listening to him and admiring his genius. Rest in peace, dear Brian.

Bob Dylan

Oh no, Brian Wilson and Sly Stone in one week ~ my world is in mourning. So sad.

Ronnie Wood

Brian Wilson was my friend and my brother in songwriting. We shared a similar sensibility, as evidenced by his four over five chord under ‘Aaaah!’ in ‘Good Vibrations’ and mine under ‘I’m Into Something Good.’ We once discussed who used it first, and in the end we decided it didn’t matter. The world will miss Brian, but we are so lucky to have his music.

Carole King

Anyone with a musical bone in their body must be grateful for Brian Wilson’s genius magical touch !! And greatly saddened of this major worldly loss!! My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Mick Fleetwood

God bless Brian,

Peace and love to all the family,

Peace and Love,

Ringo and Barbara

Anyone who really knows me knows how heartbroken I am about Brian Wilson passing. Not many people influenced me as much as he did. I feel very lucky that I was able to meet him and spend some time with him. He was always very kind and generous. He was our American Mozart. A one of a kind genius from another world.

Sean Ono Lennon

SO very sad to hear that our dear friend, inspiration and mentor for decades has passed away.

Rest In Peace, BRIAN WILSON

With love, Dewey & Gerry – America

Brian Wilson was a musical and spiritual giant. His melodies shaped generations, and his soul resonated in every note. I was fortunate to know him; we all were blessed by his genius.

Rest peacefully, Brian.

Micky Dolenz

We lost one of the greatest composers and messengers who took jazz harmony, put it to a Chuck Berry beat and made a new genre of music. Some of the best singles in the world. Dennis, Carl and Brian are all together now. Other worlds to sing in.

Randy Bachman

Sadly, Brian Wilson has passed away. Songwriter, visionary. Thank you for a lifetime of wonderful melodies that spanned decades. I’m going to spend the day listening to the Beach Boys and reminiscing.

Gene Simmons, Kiss

Brian Wilson Has Died. “Genius” is a term used too often and too loosely. “Tortured Genius” even more so. Brian’s astonishing output of musical brilliance will bring joy while it influences generations to come.

Thank you, Brian and Rest In Peace.

Paul Stanley, Kiss

His falsetto voice and iconic vocal blend were the sound of our generation

One of the Greatest Songwriters of our time

“God Only Knows“ is a classic that has influenced us all!

Surfing, cars and chicks!

Thanks for the music, Brian !”

David Paich

Words can’t express what Brian Wilson meant to me as a songwriter. I was so fortunate to call him a friend. He was a genuine hero who taught me everything I know about music. Rest in peace, my friend.

And what are the odds that this same week, on Thursday, June 12th, Mike Love was inducted into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame?!?!?  (kk)

We're thrilled to share that on June 12th, Mike Love will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame! As a founding member of The Beach Boys, Mike co-wrote some of the most iconic songs in American music history. His lyrics dove to the core of our emotions and captured the essence of California. For Mike Love, "My life is a song. I've been blessed with Joy; that's what I set out to pass on in the music." This spirit helped lay the foundation for feel-good anthems like "Fun, Fun, Fun" and seized the spirit of endless summer.

Read more about Mike Love's contributions to America's band, with an essay written by Michael Callan, and celebrate a career that helped define a generation.

Could ANYBODY be better equipped to present a salute to Sly and the Family Stone than Pee Wee Herman and Company?!?!

NOTE:  I am unable to post this video directly to the website ... but it is DEFINITELY worth checking out, so click on the YouTube link ... don't miss it!  And, if you haven't seen Pee Wee's documentary yet on HBO, it, too, is DEFINITELY worth checking out ... VERY well done ... and honestly, quite incredible that it exists at all.  (kk)

And, as expected, Part Two of Billboard's Forever #1 salute to Sly and the Family Stone ...

After 55 years, Dr. Demento is hanging up his top hat.

Barry Hansen (who has contributed to Forgotten Hits a few times over the past 25 years) has done his last Dr. Demento program.

“I’m now 84 years old and I have been doing this show for nearly 55 years — about two-thirds of my life. It’s been a blast, but I have come to the decision that I need to hang up my top hat soon. The show you just heard is the last of my regular shows.”

I was a regular listener for many years ... and greatly expanded my own collection of novelty tunes thanks to songs I heard on his program (songs I likely would have never heard otherwise.)

The Doctor will be in for a special countdown show in October, recapping The Top 40 Most Popular Songs aired on his program.  Meanwhile, the archives are still available here:

Here’s a Happy Together Tour update …

The new singer performing with Jay and the Americans is Lenie Colacino, who was an original cast member of Beatlemania. Sandy Yaguda was one of the brilliant minds behind that idea and production.

Shelley J Sweet-Tufano

I have heard that both Sandy and Marty are expected back with Jay and the Americans for the shows they’re performing on the east coast … but likely will not be going on the road with the show once it leaves that area.

Ron Dante indicated that they are hopeful that Mark Volman will return if and when his health permits it.  We also confirmed that there are no original members performing with The Vogue these days but, in the words of one of our readers who has seen them, “You’d never know it … the harmonies sound great!”  I can’t wait to hear it for myself when The Vogues come to The Arcada Theatre along with The Association and The Cowsills for a special “Harmony” concert in November.

And it sounds like plans are already underway to bring The Happy Together Tour back out on the road next year … although no final announcement regarding the line-up will be made until after this year’s tour wraps up.  (kk)

Meanwhile, David Salidor tells us that John Cafferty has wrapped up his part of the Rick Springfield “I Want My ‘80’s” Tour …

JOHN CAFFERTY AND RICK SPRINGFIELD - I WANT MY ‘80’s

John Cafferty just completed his I Want My ‘80’s dates and posed for a group shot with the Rick Springfield and John Waite bands. Cafferty called it “a spectacular experience and I loved working with all the musicians.”

Speaking of upcoming tours, The Rolling Stones have scrapped the plans for theirs, citing complications with venues and travel.  (They were hoping to do an extended UK and Europe Tour this year)

So, instead they are focusing their attention on a brand new album.

You may recall that when “Hackney Diamonds” came out a couple of years ago, The Stones commented that they had actually recorded enough material to fill TWO albums … and they’ve been re-evaluating these tracks to see what kind of “clean-up” may be necessary to get this ready for release.  (Adding some new material isn’t out of the question either … word is they’ve already got thirteen tracks under consideration.)  kk

Ringo’s All-Starr Band is hitting the road again this summer …

And now The Beatles Channel will be broadcasting a look back at all the tours from the past 36 years … (can you believe it?!?!?)

ALL STARR PROGRAMMING COMING TO THE BEATLES CHANNEL: So proud to announce a major summertime series coming your way on SiriusXM-18, The Beatles Channel.

On Monday, June 9th, we premiered an exclusive roundtable with Ringo and various members of his All Starr Band, including Joe Walsh, Jim Keltner, Steve Lukather, Gregg Bissonette and Mark Rivera, talking about their adventures on tour.

Then, beginning next Monday, June 16th, we'll launch "HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS - RINGO STARR AND THE ALL STARR BAND," a 12-week series chronicling their history from 1989 to the present, featuring nearly 50 players who have graced the All Starr stage, and dozens of classic songs - including many EXCLUSIVE unreleased performances - all recorded live in concert.

As writer and producer of the series, I am thrilled to announce that the shows will be hosted by Ringo's longtime Musical Director, Mark Rivera, who'll be sharing loads of behind the scenes stories along the way.

The ROUNDTABLE repeats on Thursday 6/12 (11 am), Saturday 6/14 (9 pm) and Sunday 6/15 (noon).*

Then, "HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS - RINGO STARR AND THE ALL STARR BAND" will premiere on Monday, June 16th, with new episodes each week throughout the summer, airing Mondays at 11 am, Wednesdays at 4 pm, and Sundays at 5 pm.*

It has been an absolute honor to put this series together, with Ringo's full blessing. I hope you can tune in and hear this incredible bounty of music!

Peace and Love,
Tom Frangione

Meanwhile, in what must be one of the shortest retirements in history, Lulu has just announced that now that she has completed her Farewell Tour, she still has a few shows left in her!

With a new book coming out in September (“If Only You Knew,” an autobiography), it sounds like she’d like to do a brief tour to promote the book and perform in a few more cities.  (Unfortunately, once again no US dates are scheduled … this is someone we would LOVE to have been able to see live.)

Billing it as “An Intimate Conversation of Stories and Songs,” it’ll just be a short journey of ten cities in the UK.  (Her book comes out September 25th)

September 30th – Glasgow – Royal Concert Hall
October 1st – Edinburgh – Usher Hall
October 4th – Eastbourne – Congress Theatre
October 6th – Birmingham – Town Hall
October 7th – Manchester – Bridgewater Hall

I Just Watched The Doobie Brothers On The Kelly Clarkson Show.

They Sang Their New Release "WALK THIS ROAD" (Also The Album Title)

First Album To Feature Significant Contributions From All Three Songwriters ---

Tom Johnston + Michael McDonald + Patrick Simmons …

Sounds Like A Winner to Me!

Tomorrow They Will Be Inducted Into Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

Yes, we’ve been listening to the new album since it came out last Friday … a very credible work to add to their collection … and so nice to hear that they’re all getting along so well and enjoying what they’re doing again.  (In an interview I saw, Michael McDonald said that when they hit that stage, they’re twenty years old again for the next two hours … but the rest of the day they feel 75!  Lol!)

They’re definitely making the rounds doing the publicity thing … didn’t realize they were on Kelly’s show today or I would have watched it!  Will have to see if it’s on YouTube yet!  (kk)
