60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
7/5/66 – On the recommendation of Keith Richards’ girlfriend, Linda Keith, Chas Chandler of The Animals goes to The Cafe Wha in New York City to see a young guitarist named Jimi Hendrix play. Chandler is completely blown away and suggests that Hendrix come back with him to England. He does, and Chandler becomes his manager. Soon (after adding bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell), they will form The Jimi Hendrix Experience … and a new Rock God is born.
