The Sunday Comments ( 10 - 18 - 26)

The reissue(s) of The Beatles' 1965 album "Rubber Soul" came in at #1 on three of Billboard's Top Album Charts this week.  (Top Rock Albums, Top Album Sales and Top Vinyl LPs.  It debuted at #4 on their official Top 200 Albums Chart.)  Not bad for a re-release of material most of us have owned for the past 60+ years!  (kk)

Another Billy Joel update …

Word came out last week that Billy is auctioning off his beloved motorcycle collection as it has been determined that he can no longer ride these vehicles.

This had to be a somewhat heartbreaking decision for Joel … these bikes were amongst his most prized possessions, owning over a hundred that he kept in a special garage on display in an almost museum-like atmosphere.  Billy hinted that he may not be able to return to performing for a while yet either, if at all, describing performing on stage as (according to his neurologist) “Every time you do a show, it's like you're getting a concussion."  (kk)

One of my favorite songs from the ‘60’s …

Originally written and performed by one of our favorite “Local Heroes”

And now done in French by a band out of Quebec!

Give a “listen” to this one!  (kk)

Love it!  Never heard that one, Kent!  Thanks for sending!!

Hi Kent,

After just a few days, our new podcast, A Heart For The Charts, ranked at #10 (out of 100) in the Music History category on Apple.  Not bad for our very first episode!  I'm even more excited about our next episode, which drops on Tuesday, October 20th, and will feature Joel Whitburn's daughter Kim Bloxdorf talking about the life and legacy of her father and his Record Research company.  Kim will share lots of great history and behind the scenes stories.  We also have future episodes planned with the likes of Kim Carnes and Rupert Holmes giving insight into their chart careers.

We appreciate everyone who takes the time to watch/listen and encourage to like, subscribe and maybe even leave a review so we can keep on making more of these fun shows.

Funny thing from tonight's WLS reunion show:

Fred Winston and newsman Lyle Dean used to do a fun segment called "Choose Your News" in the 70s on WLS mornings and they did a new version of it tonight and the story chosen was our Lincoln NU football stadium rebuild and the university selling their stadium urinals!  How funny AND TRUE.  Of course, Fred WAS on KOIL in the early 60s.  Seldom then did stations have banter between newsmen and DJs on the air, but I always enjoyed it.  It was kind of a replacement for Animal Stories as Lujack moved to afternoons.  Great memories of WLS 60s/70s/80s.  I have one Choose Your News recorded from Lincoln before school thru the static from 70s somewhere around here.

Anyway, hope everyone caught the show.  Lots of great clips and DJs.  As an ultimate WLS fan since the 60s, I could hear these shows every week!

Blondie’s still rockin’ …

Look for a new album in February.

It’s been nine years since their last new release … and this LP will contain the final recording sessions of Drummer Clem Burke who died last year.

Called “High Noon,” Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are joined in the studio by Johnny Marr, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, Beirut‘s Zach Condon, and Jess Wolf and Holly Laessig of Lucius.

The advance single “Spectral Eyes” is available to listen to on YouTube now …

I am happy to report that you CAN go on iTunes and download only the four new tracks that Paul McCartney has added to his "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane" album ... meaning that you do NOT have to repurchase the entire cd that you've already paid for.

I did the same thing with the four bonus tracks recently released by Stevie Wonder from his "Songs In The Key Of Life" sessions.

And come November 27th, you'll be able to download five new tracks recorded during the "Foreign Tongues" sessions by The Rolling Stones:

WHERE THERE’S A WILL
WHO YOU CALLIN’ CRAZY
HUMAN TIDE
BAD LUCK HIDEAWAY

SHE STILL COMES AROUND

(Or you can simply reorder the entire package as a new deluxe 2-CD release.)

They've pulled yet ANOTHER single from this LP ... "Loose Lips" ... and an advance track ("Who You Callin' Crazy") will be available next Tuesday (October 20th)  kk
