60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
8/23/66 – For the second year in a row, The Beatles performed at Shea
Stadium in New York City. However,
unlike the previous year's performance … a complete sell out … there were
reportedly 11,000 empty seats this time around in the 55,600 seat stadium. (The Beatles ban was evidently still having
some effect.) Regardless, they ended up
earning more than the previous year, receiving $189,000 for their
performance. (That’s the
equivalent of $1,845,344.98 in today’s
dollars!)
