A few more Brian Wilson tributes that came late …
I have no words to express the
sadness I feel right now. My Father, Brian Wilson, was every fiber of my body.
He will be remembered by millions and millions until the world ends. I am lucky
to have been his daughter and had a soul connection with him that will live on
always. I've never felt this kind of pain before, but I know he's resting up
there in heaven ... or maybe playing the piano for Grandma Audree, his Mom. I
will post something else soon but this is all my hands will let me type. I love
you.
Carnie Wilson
Today I lost a dear friend and
the world lost a true musical genius — Brian Wilson. I’ve known Brian since the
very beginning of my career through Lou Adler, and over the years, we shared
unforgettable memories, both on stage and in the studio.
From singing backup on Beach
Boys tracks to sharing moments of laughter and harmony during his solo
projects, Brian was more than a collaborator — he was family. His creativity
knew no limits, and his heart was just as big as his talent.
One of his favorite Christmas
songs was Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), and I was always so touched by how
much that meant to him. We shared a deep respect for each other’s gifts, and I
always said, “The world always needs to see and hear Brian Wilson.” That’s
never been more true than it is today.
Rest easy, Brian. Your music,
your spirit, and your soul will live on forever.
Darlene Love
Brian Wilson was the most musically
inventive voice in all of pop, with an otherworldly ear for harmony. He was
also the visionary leader of America’s greatest band, The Beach Boys. If
there’d been no Beach Boys, there would have been no “Racing In The Street.”
Listen to “Summer’s Gone” from The Beach Boys’ last album “That’s Why God Made
The Radio” and weep. Farewell, Maestro. Nothing but love and a lovely lasting
debt from all of us over here on E Street.
Bruce Springsteen
Oh gee ... We say goodbye to Brian
Wilson. I’ve know the Beach Boys since the mid-60’s and have done lots of shows
with them. They were the American answer to the Beatles. They wowed everyone
with the songs, structures, vocals harmonies. The sunshine sound. I remember
when Brian decided to not go on the road anymore but continued to write
incredible music. They were like family. When Carl passed, it was like losing a
brother and it feels the same today. They are still going today with their
incredible legacy with Bruce Johnston and Mike Love. We lost one of the
greatest composers and messengers who took jazz harmony, put it to a Chuck
Berry beat and made a new genre of music. Some of the best singles in the
world. Dennis, Carl and Brian are all together now. Other worlds to sing in. RIP, Brian Wilson.
Randy Bachman
So very sorry to hear that Brian Wilson has passed away. He
was one of the all time greats and a wonderful character, too!! He will be
greatly missed by all those who knew him and by all those who were touched by
his breathtakingly beautiful music!!
Colin Blunstone
Those transcendent words and
happy/sad melodies will be there for all-time, waiting for each new generation.
Mighty love and thanks always to the great Brian Wilson.
Cameron Crowe
Brian was among a handful of the
most important American popular musical artists of all time. Extremely talented
and vastly influential, his music will live on forever.

I'm going to guess that the
Wilson family is planning some massive celebration of Brian's life, so the Love
and Jardine versions of the Boys for now will soldier on.

It’s business as usual for the two sanctions of Beach Boys
bands out there, both of whom have huge tours planned and already in the works
for the summer which, of course, is Beach Boys Season.
The Beach Boys, featuring Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, will
continue to use the name … while Al Jardine is now fronting Brian Wilson’s
excellent band, redubbed The Pet Sounds Band from this point forward. The possibility that Blondie Chaplain and
Wendy and Carnie Wilson may show up at some of these gigs makes it the more
interesting proposition … but if you read Al’s interview above, it sounds like
the group is digging a lot deeper into some of the group’s album tracks, which
may actually turn off some of the fans who come out to have a good time and
hear the hits. Only time will tell. (kk)
So, so sad Brian Wilson
passing. I was fortunate to see him and
Al Jardine do all their hits and the whole Pet Sounds album at the Chicago
Theater just before the covid years. Took photos and have them hanging in
my 'rock and roll room’ in my basement! LOL
Like you said, the Beach Boy
music will live on and I am glad I have been a fan since the beginning! Years
back, I bought an album of their hits that was signed by Brian. Have it hanging
in my basement, too, with all my other collections.
We also lost Sly, leader of the
Family Stone. My favorite song of his was "Everyday people" with that
famous line "Different Strokes for Different Folks!" It is in my juke
box ... LOL
Carolyn
So sad ... but it was inevitable for Brian ... they're all
in their 80's now and he hasn't been in the best of health for many years
now. Recently losing his wife couldn't have helped matters any.
Very sad just the same. Thankfully, his music will outlive all of us ...
even my grand kids love Beach Boys music!

Kent,
During 1971 I was taking a music appreciation class in college. The
professor was very old school, stodgy, and looked down his nose at anything modern.
We had many long lectures on opera, orchestras, the movements of classical
compositions, Bach, Beethoven, etc. Then one day I was blown away when
the entire class featured the Beach Boys. The instructor presented a
class on barbershop harmony and told us that the finest example of that harmony
"today" is embodied in the Beach Boys songs, while we listened to
many Beach Boys examples. I'll never forget it.
Eventually, during the mid-80s, I saw them live at the Pheasant Run
Mega Center in St. Charles, IL. There were at least two encores.
Sadly, both Brian and Pheasant Run are now only memories.

From Tom Cuddy …
Here’s a photo of FH reader Brad
Joblin of Connecticut, center, with Brian Wilson and Al Jardine.
Tom Cuddy also sent
me this picture of Burton Cummings wearing the “Midnight Special” T-Shirt that
Tom gave him during a recent concert appearance. (These are pretty rare and unique … I know,
because I got one from Tom, too, last year!!!)
We can’t wait to
see Burton when he appears here on July 14th. Just keep hearing nothing but stellar reviews
of his current tour.
And now that
dates are starting to be announced for next year’s Guess Who Reunion Tour with
Randy Bachman (where they’ll be doing a two hour show of Guess Who, Burton
Cummings and Bachman Turner Overdrive hits), we just can’t get enough!!! (kk)

Hi Kent,
Just wanted to let you know that
I finally got to see the completed "Dick Biondi Movie." Pam had a showing at the Lyric Theater in Blue
Island, opening up with Randy B, an Elvis impersonator.
It was a beautiful small theater
and the movie was fabulous, to say the least!! Pam did one great job!! Great job with your comments in the movie,
too!!
Did you see the completed Dick
Biondi movie yet? Pam got an offer to distribute the movie on streaming. She hasn't
signed the contract yet … waiting to see if any other offers will come, but she
is very excited after all those years of working on this film.
Hope all is well at your end and
I wonder if Randy Bachman will still be appearing at Elk Grove Village in July?
Keep Rockin'
Carolyn
Glad you finally got the chance to see it -
I probably filmed close to two hours of material which was
then edited down to about two minutes!!! (lol)
I've probably seen about eight different cuts of the movie
so far - she keeps re-editing it based on suggestions made by the audience - so
at this point, I'm not sure if I've actually seen the "final" or not
... or if it will even REMAIN the final!!! (lol) But I’m hoping she can make a deal soon so
that others can enjoy it as well … it really is very well done. (Meanwhile, fundraising is still going on in
order to cover the cost of all the musical licensing … so they’re not quite out
of the woods yet. Donations can be sent
via the website … link below.)
Bachman-Turner Overdrive are scheduled to appear in Elk
Grove on July 29th … it’s a Tuesday Night and it should be a pretty
full house. We’re planning on going …
haven’t been to one of these in YEARS … and then back out again next year to
see the big Guess Who reunion of Randy and Burton! (kk)
Hi there, Kent,
I, too, am very saddened by the death of both Sly Stone and
Brian Wilson, although considering their health situations, their deaths were
not totally unexpected.
Also, thanks for informing us of something that I've been
expecting for some time now. That is that Barry Hanson better known as
Dr. Demento has decided to discontinue creating his weekly shows. I had
the pleasure of corresponding with Dr. Demento for several years, and he was
most enjoyable to communicate with and discuss music with.
I have to agree with you, Kent … he introduced a whole new
generation of kids and teenagers to many older novelty recording artists that
they probably had never heard before. Although Spike Jones, Stan Freberg,
Yogi Yorgesson and Monty Python weren't new to me, Dr. Demento certainly
introduced me to many novelty artists and songs that I had never heard before,
like Shaving Cream by Paul Wynn, Ain't We Crazy by Haywire Mac and Get A Load
Of This by R. Crumb & His Cheap Suit Serenaders. He single handedly launched
Weird Al Yankovic's recording career. In fact, Al’s recording of Another
One Rides The Bus was actually recorded in the KMET studios in Los Angeles
during a Dr. Demento show before it was pressed on record.
Dr. Demento is known to have one of the largest record
collections in the world, in excess of 80,000 records, many of them rare
78s. You may remember that back on May 1 of 2023, I offered your readers
the original version of Come On-a My House by playwright William Saroyan and
Ross Bagdasarian, and I first found out about that original version from the
good doctor. But I agree with Dr. Demento, it's time for him to hang up
his headphones and just be able to relax for the rest of his life. He
certainly offered a lot of very entertaining shows, and I'm glad I have as many
of his shows as I do in my audio archives.
Take care,
Sam Ward
I have a few of his shows on tape … and have searched high
and low to find some of the gems he’s aired on his program over the years, not
always the easiest task as some of these are REALLY hard to get copies of. (I may be sending you a list of “special
wants” to see if you might have access to MP4’s of some of these
rarities!) kk
Jay and ... well you know the
group …
Sandy IS back on stage for the
Jersey shows now. Marty is still on the mend.
Shelley
Happy Birthday 🍰🎂🎉! to actor Malcom McDowell
who just turned 82!
Jim Roup
Congratulations to Roger Daltrey …
No, he didn’t change his mind again about Zak Starkey (not
that I know of, anyway!) …
But on Friday, the 13th, he was knighted. Also honored at that ceremony were soccer
star David Beckham, actor Gary Oldman and actress Elaine Paige, who is now a
dame. (My how times have changed … if
you called her a Dame in the ‘20’s, it would have been an insult!)
Daltrey joins fellow rockers Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr,
Rod Stewart, Ray Davies, Mick Jagger, Elton John and Barry Gibb, among others. (kk)
From Timmy …
This may explain
a lot ….
Wonderful … Wonderful

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
6/15/65 - Detroit pitcher Denny McLain pitches 6 2/3 innings
in relief for The Detroit Tigers, during which time he strikes out the first
seven batters he faced … and sets a record by striking out 14 of the 20 men he faced in those
6 2/3 innings as The Tigers win 6-5 over The Boston Red Sox. Three years later, McLain would be the pride
of The Tigers, winning 31 games while propelling his team to The World
Series. No Major League Pitcher has won
thirty or more games in a single season since.
