The Sunday Comments ( 06 - 08 - 25 )

All day today Me-TV is running wedding-related episodes of some of your favorite vintage tv shows …

It’s their “Marry Me Sunday” … and you can get all of the details (and show times) via the link below … (don’t ask me why their link says June 25 … the shows are running TODAY, June 8th!)

Depending on what time you’re reading this (it posted at 7 am Central Time), you should still have plenty of time to catch the ones you want to see.  (It kicked off at 8 am Central with a two-part episode of “Saved By The Bell.”)  You’ll also find wedding episodes of “The Brady Bunch,” “Happy Days,” “Laverne And Shirley,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “I Love Lucy,” “Leave It To Beaver,” “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “Gilligan’s Island,” “Mama’s Family,” “The Love Boat,” “M*A*S*H,” “All In The Family,” “The Carol Burnett Show,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and “They Honeymooners.”  (kk)

People Magazine has done a great piece on Micky Dolenz, still getting lots of coverage for his Songs And Stories Tour …

Hello Kent -

Just so you know, we make an announcement before the show about Mark not being at tonight's performance due to medical problems.

We are looking forward to his full recovery and returning to the shows.

Ron Dante

We sent copies of Thursday's posting about the Happy Together show that Rich Turner saw down in Clearwater, Florida last weekend to members of all six bands performing as part of the show, representatives of Paradise Artists and even Jon Bauman (Bowzer), who initiated The Truth In Music Act adopted by most of our United States.

Ron's was the only reply we received ... so please let us know if this is NOT the case when you see the show in your town so we can nudge them all again.  Thanks!

(We have been HUGE supporters of this tour for over 25 years now and have attended more of these concerts than I can count ... ALWAYS portraying this music and these artists in only the most positive light ...

But when something just doesn't seem right, we've got to protect the fans first ... and then the artists themselves who might be slighted in any way for not keeping their fans up to date.)  kk

In FHs regarding the "2025 Happy Together Tour" stop in Clearwater, Florida, May 30th ~~~

>>>Little Anthony stole the show with his voice, still crystal clear at 84!  (Rick Glover)

Wow! For me, if I was hearing him perform his Great, Haunting Forgotten Hit so clearly and so fabulously, "I think I'd be going out of my head!"

Wait! I feel a parody song coming on!

"Will you still love me,

Will you come see me,

When I'm Eighty-four!"

Remarkable and, yes, so cool!

Buell

Those last few lines by you, about how people don't know/care about who is/was in a group, as long as they hear the music as close as possible to the original, are priceless. This is what I will remember about you, as much as anything you've written for these websites. Thanks.

Bob Frable

I think we are rapidly approaching the point where this is the best we can hope for.  So many of these great artists have left us now - the only hope of keeping this music alive is through artists presenting it in a respectful fashion.  Otherwise this music will ultimately die with the artist ... and we just can't let that happen.  (kk)

A perfect example ...

The Genesee Theatre has an unusual (for them) ‘50’s show coming up in September featuring current editions of The Drifters, The Platters and The Coasters.  (There can't be ANY original members of these bands still performing!  But I've heard they all do an incredible job of presenting this music the way fans want to hear it.)

Also coming to The Genesee are TLC, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Beach Boys and .38 Special.  Check out their website for tickets and more details.  (kk)

Some “behind the scenes” fun facts regarding the Barbra Streisand / Paul McCartney duet of Paul’s “My Valentine” as featured on Barbra’s new “Partners” album …

Howard Stern updated Billy Joel fans on his radio program this past Tuesday …

He said that he recently had dinner with his friend Billy and noted that Billy is “doing fine” at the moment.  “He does have issues, but he said, ‘Yeah, you can tell people, I’m not dying.'  He wants people to know that. He’s got to deal with some medical stuff, but he was delightful and we had a great conversation.”  (kk)

A couple of interesting "comeback" releases worth mentioning ...

Belinda Carlisle of The Go-Go's has an album of covers coming out that features her remakes of classic '60's and '70's songs like "Anyone Who Had A Heart" (Dionne Warwick), "If You Could Read My Mind" (Gordon Lightfoot), "One" (Three Dog Night), "Never My Love" (The Association), "The Air That I Breathe" (The Hollies ... and also the lead single), "Time In A Bottle" (Jim Croce), "Superstar" (The Carpenters / Leon Russell), "Everybody's Talkin'" (Nilsson), "Get Together" (The Youngbloods) and "Reflections Of My Life" (Marmalade).

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey has released HER first new song in seven years!  "Type Dangerous" (While I think the Belinda Carlisle concept sounds interesting, I think I've got to give this one to Mariah!)  kk

Forgotten Hits Reader Tim Kubat is telling me that James Lowe, lead singer of The Electric Prunes, passed away last month.

Drummer Preston Ritter was a regular contributor to Forgotten Hits before his passing several years ago.  Their singles “I Had Too Much To Dream” and “Get Me To The World On Time” both made The National Top 40 in 1967 … and Forgotten Hits Readers named “I Had Too Much To Dream” as the #2 Greatest Psychedelic Song of All Time in a poll we did several years ago.

(Talk about a trip … this is a GREAT piece worth another look after all these years!)  kk

From Jim Roup ...

Belated Birthday!  🎈 🥳 🎂 greetings to Michelle Phillips seen here at John Phillips memorial concert at The Roxy.

A "feel good" video from Chuck Buell ...

Here's a Fun Teaming of the co-founder and lead singer of the Lovin' Spoonful, John Sebastian, along with the Mona Lisa Twins!

The Twins are a pop rock band, fronted by twin-sisters, Mona Wagner (on vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion, harmonica, flute, recorder and accordion) and Lisa Wagner (also on vocals and lead guitar, ukulele and cello.)

They were born in Vienna, Austria on June 16, 1994!  (Yeah, we're old!)  But some of us are older than Sebastian and some of us are younger!  HE was born March 17, 1944!  Which means he's 81 today!

Meanwhile, the Mona Lisa Twins, who are 31 years old today, are known for their YouTube video covers of songs by the Beatles and other 1960s groups.

Here they are joining John Sebastian a few years ago with one of the Spoonful's Biggest Hits, their Number Two Song from June, 1966, "Did You Ever Have to Make up your Mind?!"

It's one of my Favorite Songs that I truly enjoyed playing on my CB Radio Program and I think they do a terrific, fun rendition of it here! It's Great to see Sebastian having such a Good Time with a song of his that he also wrote that's almost 60 years old now!  Whew!  I hope you enjoy this as much as I!

OK, here it is for your early morning Dining and Dancing Pleasure!

I wish you a Happy Day and that Today's Challenging World-in-Turmoil doesn't bring you down!

Your Personal Hit Music Archivist,

Me, Chuck Buell!

A great big THANK YOU for keeping the hits of the 1950's-80's alive.
Joe Cantello

And before we go, a quick question ...

Anybody out there having issues with the website lately?

We've heard from one reader who seems to be running into some issues when accessing the site ... and I've kind of blown it off because I figured if it was something rampant, we'd have received numerous emails about it ... and his has been the only one we've received.  (With thousands of visitors each day, it seems highly unlikely that only ONE reader would be having issues!)

So I felt it best to ask.

If you ARE or have been experiencing issues, please let us know what they are so we can dig deeper into this.  Everything is exactly as it has been (and should be) from this end ... but we want to address this if, in fact, it is widespread.  Please let us know.

THANKS!  (kk)
