Phil Nee Talks To Billy Hinsche

We are still very sad about the passing of Billy Hinsche a few weeks ago and have been talking with several friends and music associates about just how much we miss him.  Simply put, Billy was a great guy who definitely impacted our lives.

Phil Nee, who hosts WRCO's "Those Were The Days" oldies show on Saturday Nights, had the opportunity to interview Billy twenty years ago ... and sent in these two brief clips to share with our audience ...

Billy Hinsche joined my on the program in 2001.  He took time out from his busy tour schedule and called to talk about the Dino, Desi & Billy days and the start of the group.

It is cool to see some of the vintage video of Dino, Desi & Billy.  I asked Billy about his thoughts about those vintage clips.

I enjoy watching those old Dino, Desi and Billy clips as well ... and will share a couple of them with you today.

First is the obvious hit, "I'm A Fool," a #12 smash in 1965 ...

And then a track that we just recently discovered thanks to Harvey Kubernik and Gary Pig Gold called "Lady Love," written by Billy Hinsche with Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys.  (Billy toured as part of The Beach Boys Band for decades ... and remained close to Brian all these years later, even filling in on occasion on some of Brian's solo tours.)

This is a BEAUTIFUL song, so I thank Harvey and Gary for introducing it to me ... sort of a last-ditch effort to keep the band alive in 1969.  In this obviously lip-synched clip, the band is introduced by Dino's somewhat famous father, Dean Martin!!!

We'll be sharing more of Phil Nee's interviews every Saturday next year as just one of our new Forgotten Hits Features for 2022.

And, of course, you can listen to Phil's "Those Were The Days" program Saturday Nights on WRCO here:  WRCO AM FM Radio Richland Center Wisconsin
