60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
12/5/64 - The Beach Boys score their first #1 Album on the US Chart with “Beach Boys Concert” … it’ll stay there for four weeks.
The album was recorded live at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California, and is a rare piece of history that includes all of the original members together in a live setting. (By the way, the concert was MC’d by our FH Buddy Fred Vail, who would take over their managerial duties shortly thereafter.)
The success of the album came as a bit of a surprise as they only perform four of their own hits on the LP ...
"Fun Fun Fun," "Little Deuce Coupe," "In My Room" and their first official #1 Record, "I Get Around."
Still, it sold well, and showcased the group as they are perhaps best known today ...
A performing entity that has sold out concert venues for the past six decades. (kk)
