January 9th, 1965

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

1/9/65 – The Beatles’ latest US album, “Beatles ’65,” starts a nine week run at No.1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart.  This is the group’s fourth US #1 Album.

This “US only” title includes eight of the fourteen songs from their British “Beatles For Sale” album and also includes 'I'll Be Back' from the British release of “A Hard Day's Night” as well as their latest hit single (also #1), “I Feel Fine” / “She's a Woman.”

To this day, “Beatles ‘65” remains one of my all-time favorite Beatles albums.  I literally wore the grooves off this disc … to the point that my mother came into my bedroom one afternoon while I was playing it, DEMANDING that I turn it off immediately.  The screeching sound was more than she could bear.  Sure enough, when I lifted the tone arm, the needle had strands of vinyl hanging from it … I had worn it down to the core!
